Feedback on my first shot and advice sought

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
Well my new machine arrived yesterday and the coffee this am, thanks Andy for the extra effort.* :)

The plastic tamper supplied with the Gaggia is useless {not that Im telling you guys anything new:} as it doesnt fit the the portafilter correctly leaving an uneven level which Im sure now, was tamped to hard.
The plastic nozzle on the end of the steam wand kept flying off into the milk jug when under a stronger pressure resulting in me struggling to keep the now very short wand actually in the milk ...* = mess!!* :(

I tried a double shot first, {overtamped and uneven} ... my heart is still racing, I actually felt the hit ...* :o* whilst it didnt taste too bad I realise that I have a long way to go to find what actually suits my personal taste and how to follow the correctl process.
Clearly its all down to practice and slowly gaining experience.

Can the Steam Wand be replaced with something all steel so I can* throw out that plastic nozzle ?

Any hints or tips welcome ...

Also made a hot chocolate for the other half, just heating the milk of course but using the product sold by coffeesnobs, and we both loved the taste, really!, despite me showering the place with steamed milk ...* ::)

You can replace the gaggia wand with a rancilio steam wand.
    Longer and better steam performance.
Search the site for more details.
Several sponsors sell them, just make sure you get the older style wand, or tell them it is for a gaggia

Do you mean this one ... Rancilio Silvia Steam Wand with Fitting ... ? and does it just swap straight over without any further modifications?

    Thanks

Have a read of this thread, it should answer your questions.

There are plenty other threads, but that one is pretty recent and covers off ordering, fitting and issues with the upgrade.
