    New em6910 steam tip

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
I went to myer today, saw a sunbeam em6910 with a new steam tip. Does anyone know where can I get one? It doesnt have the "nipple" like the old one which make it easiler to clean.

Take your old steam tip into Myer and do a quick switcheroo while no-one is looking ;)

Seriously, you could ring the 1800 Sunbeam coffee number and ask them who your local service agent is, then call them and ask if they can on-sell the part. I think some people have tried this in the past without success though...

I asked the sunbeam repairer and they dont have a part number for it.. so the only way to get one is to call Sunbeam directly.. which I may do...

I have played around with this tip for some time now. (probably for the past 2 months)

The main difference is the bulbous shape which is so so much easier to clean than the previous design. I didnt find that the steaming process was any better or worse.

No such luck! Also, they wont reveal pricing - referring enquiries to their service agents. I guess the mark-up is up to each one!

Sunbeam NZ have pointed me to a service agent, they did say you have to buy the whole steam arm, not just the tip. Cant be bothered enquiring any further, but at least it can be done

Asked one of the sunbeam representitive in myer. She told me i have to take my machine to the service center and change the whole steam arm. Does anyone know is there any different between the steam arm of the new machine and the old machine? If there is no different, Ill just order the whole "STEAM ARM with the new TIP", and un-strew the steam tip and install it by myself.

I know the steam arm are different on the Em6900/\/Em6910

If they change the Steam arm completely, then they would have to chance the model number. Someones telling porky pies!

I can confirm first hand that the steam arm does not have to replaced to accommodate the new steam tip on the 6910.

I was sent a new tip to trial and it is a direct switch over from the original tip.

I do not know the part number. I was trialling several different items for sunbeam over the past 10 months and the tip in question was sent to me to give feedback on.

This is a pic of the tip.

My mate had his 6910 sent back to sydney to have his steam pump replaced and when the machine came back it had a new tip on it.

I just got a new 6910, but am unsure if I have the new or old tip that youre all talking about. My tip has like a hex shape at the very very end of the tip which needs the milk to be picked or scraped off. Does anyone have a photo of the new vs old tips?

Its certainly the new tip because I bought one. As I posted, it cost $13.20, and the part no. is EM69168. By the way I neglected to state that Park Holme is a southern suburb of Adelaide.Their telephone number is (08)83575800.

I reckon all Sunbeam service agents will stock them - just call the 1800 number or look em up in the yellow pages.

Ill be needing a quote on an entire steam arm after I snapped mine off. The broken edge looks a lot like ceramic, but could also just be low-quality steel...

Unless the thread pattern is of a different size, there is no reason for the new tip not to fit. Anyway, the gentleman at Park Holme assured me it was a direct replacement. If it isnt, Ill certainly get my money back when I get my machine back.

Perhaps they meant the old EM6900? Even then I dont think it would be incompatible - I had a close look at the new steam tip in a department store (removed it from the demo machine) and thread looked identical.

I suspect that they just dont want to be inundated with requests for freebie upgrades - or possibly the person you spoke to just didnt know what they were talking about (it happens).

I am in Melbourne and decided to get one of these steam tips. None of the service agents have them but they can order them in.

    Service agent:

Box Hill - Home Spares 9899 0587, 1029 Whitehorse Rd
Forest Hill - Mitcham Appliances, 336 Springvale Road, 9878 2881
Heidelberg - Appliance Service Sales, 177 Burgundy Street, 9459 9848

When I get it Ill post back on any findings that I have.

I just called the Brisbane service Agents ( my number # 2 EM6910 was in for a repair) and their stock of these new tips have arrived... I have one on hold awaiting pick up..

Yes, they are interchangeable and if your having problems getting good micro foam, on the older style units... We tested two tips on one system with the same milk, today at work, and it makes a difference...

How much are they charging for the tip?

I have the new tip now because Sunbeam replaced my machine; its been a while since Ive used the old one so cant really comment on performance, but its so much easier to keep clean...

    Gday Tony,

I assume you are in Melbourne eastern suburbs. I too didnt know which store to go to, so I rang Sunbeam and they put me on to the following three stores:

Box Hill - Home Spares 9899 0587, 1029 Whitehorse Rd
Forest Hill - Mitcham Appliances, 336 Springvale Road, 9878 2881
Heidelberg - Appliance Service Sales, 177 Burgundy Street, 9459 9848

I would expect that none of these stores have the part, seeing that this is not a typical part that would break or fail. And indeed, when I rang Mitcham Appliances a couple of weeks ago, the proprietor did not have the item available and had to order it in from Sydney. This SHOULD have taken a couple of days but according to Mitcham Appliances, Sunbeam were experiencing severe delays to parts shipment due to a new computer system that they had upgraded to. Apparently this has since been resolved and they were able to ship the part to him the other day. I picked it up yesterday afternoon on my way home from work.

I would suggest that you call any one of these three stores and quote them the correct part number (which is somewhere in this thread). Then be prepared to wait a few days for it to come in, as I dont believe they will readily stock this item.

    Cheers,

    Lawrance

    Hi AM,

I am familiar with the performance of the old steam tip and so I went straight to the new tip this morning and made a couple of coffees using my same work flow.

I didnt really expect any difference, and I have to say that I got what I expected. ;D

I generally steam my coffee glasses before I put them in the microwave to heat up before I do my extraction. I didnt observe much difference in the way the steam was coming out from the tip. There was a slight change in the "shape" of the steam plume as it was coming out of the new tip, but the velocity seemed about the same.

When I steamed my half jug of milk, it wasnt textured any differently to the old tip. Tastes about the same too, but thats a good thing because the previous tip was pretty good, albeit hard to clean.

Overall, Im EXTREMELY happy that Sunbeam have been very responsive to customer feedback and released a new design tip. This greatly aids the cleaning of the steam wand on a fairly impressive "budget" machine. Im all smiles! :) :)

    Hi again Tony,

I guess we now know that the new steam tip definitely fits the old wand. *I cant categorically say that it will fit the EM6900 but I can say with absolute certainty that the new tip fitted my EM6910. * ;)

The reason why I mentioned the EM6900 is because the EM6900 may have different thread on the steam tip. I know for a fact that the EM6900 has a different portafilter (it doesnt fit in the EM6910 properly) and even the thread for the pour spouts on the EM6900 portafilter as well as the C shape spring retainer for the baskets are different.

Oh, and price for the new tip was under $15.

    Cheers,

    Lawrance

    Re: New em6910 steam tip

Ive switched between the old tip and the new tip and the steaming characteristics of the new tip seem to be slightly different. Its only a subtle difference though. I think that the steam that comes out from the new tip is a little bit more "powerful" which probably means that the opening is ever slightly smaller than the original tip, causing a subtly stronger jet.

I think this will result in better textured milk. Ill need to do some more testing with texturing milk to see if it is better or not than the original tip, but at the moment, it does seem to be a slight improvement.
