Just changed my group head seal - EM6910

    Gday,

Ive just changed my group head seal today, for the first time. I have had my Sunbeam 6910 for a year and a few days. So today I changed the seal. It was very easy to do...but I have the following issue and questions:

    - After replacing the seal, why does it lock back firmly into place at between 5 oclock and 4 oclock? As oppose, to being firm at about 6 o’clock. It feels a bit firmer, around the six oclock mark but then I find more give. Back to where I said above. Is this normal? Do I need to check something?

    - Cause it was initially firm at about 6 oclock I decided to pour a test shot...it was ok. There was a steady small flow of water, from the back and front of the group head. So, I have done a few more test shots, locked around to my normal position - they seem fine/ok. The last one had a tiny bit of water come from the group head, at the front of the end of the pf. Advise?

So...some advise would be great. I know the new seal was good/necessary but it was all in all a bit frustrating!

    Thanks
    Chris

It locks in past 6 because the collar is now worn.

Someone recently suggested wetting the top edge of the basket before locking in for a better seal.

So, TG is that the way it is now? Any remedy for the worn collar?

Or is that just the way it is?

I did see that other comment you mentioned, and will try that out.

    Thanks

The collar will need to be replaced eventually.
Yours doesnt sound bad enough that Sunbeam would offer to replace it.
    You could always ask them.

Is the collar something you would replace yourself? Or is it better to have a repairer replace that?

Where abouts is the collar, in relation to the other parts we are talking about?

Christop- You need to get a group head seal spacer from a Sunbeam Agent - just looks like a big washer made of silicon. It goes under the group head seal to decrease the gap. You can also take out the seal - stencil around the top surface and cut out a piece of cardboard from a manila folder the same size and use that as the spacer - it has worked for me in the past!

    heya,

ive had exactly the same problems.

I got the answer from sunbeam about a worn collar. Why oh why does this problem occur after we change the group seal? All is fine prior to the cahnge of the seal and then our problems start. My handle would lock tight closer to 4 oclock and then would still leak some times. With the old seal no issues.

I took mine to the repairer for them to have a look at it. Its been with them over a week now and nothing yet :(

    hey Hammer,

    Thanks mate.

Ive had a read of the thread. Seems the simpler option is to put the spacer under the group seal.

    cheers

    Thats just a temporary fix.
    The collar will keep wearing.
