    Hi Guys,

Our faithful Gaggia Classic short circuited this morning (flash/smoke etc) Not a good look.

Now we are contemplating anoyjer Gaggia Classic or The Gaggia Baby Dose?

Would love to see other opinions

    Thanks

The Gaggia Classic can turn out some pretty good shots. If you want a little more steam capacity though, a Rancilio Silvia should be on your short list,

If it comes down to these two, then definitely stick with the Classic if just for the fact that you can fit a Silvia steam wand and get rid of the terrible pannarello (froth enhancer). The Gaggia Baby cant steam wand cant be modified, or at least I couldnt find a reliable way. Some say just use the naked steam arm but not as good as adding a proper steam wand.

I agree with Charlie. Might be a good opportunity to set your sites a little higher.

Friends of mine have a classic and paired with a Rocky, it turns out pretty good results. But I think it could do with a little more steam - not sure whether they can get the second latte done in one session - maybe some classic owners can confirm?

I did the Silvia steam arm mod for them and now they can actually get microfoam so that mod is a no-brainer (if you take the froth enhancer off the steam arm is a bit short)

    morning sweno

    IMHO
the classic is a good unit, the baby is just fancier

    coffee quality is the same

    steam capabiliteis the same

the newer steam adaptors are too short to use without the cover,
the early saeco steam adaptor works better as it is longer,

as mentioned the silvia steam arm upgrade is well worth the money

if i was updating, i would got to the silvia, before i went to the baby

or you could look at getting yours fixed

    parts are available

HOLD THE HORSES. Your machine is fine.....just open the top you will find a fuse

located on top of the boiler. Its covered in insulated wiring. You cant miss it.

Just open that up and see if its burnt out..A simple fuse replacement max. $10.00

I had the flash as well..interestingly enough with smoke. I quickly pulled the power

out of the wall and turned on 15seconds later..all was fine.

I managed to drop water down into the area where the buttons are. I assume

some landed on some contacts. That would be another place to check.

THis fix is really easy and cheap if you take it too a shop. Why spend more?

    :)

The Silvia steam wand fits the Gaggia Baby Dose perfectly with enough pressure to do a great job frothing. If you can find a refurbished or gently used Baby D I would recommend it. Have a good day.
