Sunbeam EM6910? To buy or not to buy...

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
    Hi all,
Im new here. Have had a Krups machine for 8 years (yes surprising!) and we learnt to make great coffee with it. It has gone to coffee heaven and we are now considering the Sunbeam.

Is it good, bad or ugly?

    Cheers
    Kaz

    Which Sunbeam ?

Do a search and read on the posts here...

Many questions need to be answered before a real decision can be made..

Many could say Yes or NO WAY to the Sunbeam but with out knowing a bit more about your coffee needs and expectations...

Any machine advise from any one might be suspect...

You might have asked is Holden OK ?? Bit of a open question..

    hey hazsmith

first up, welcome to CS!! ;D ;D

The EM6910 is a good machine that if linked with a good grinder, technique, fresh beans, well maintained and serviced can make very good coffee. However there are a lot of people who might not tell you to buy one because of their "issues" of reliability and durability.

Go through this section, search and read through the posts regarding the 6910 and this will help answer your question. ;)

summing it up- good machine doesnt always last long. :-X

Re: Sunbeam EM6910? To buy or not to buy...

The Sunbeam EM6910 is certainly capable of making very good coffee. *As to the reliability, a lot (certainly not all, but a lot) of people who have trouble with the Sunbeam, myself included, could probably blame poor maintenance and/or misuse. *Its not entirely the users fault though, since the Sunbeam manual says to clean the grouphead every 3 months *:o which is nowhere near often enough for a machine used daily.
If you do the Sunbeam course that is offered when you buy the machine (do they still offer that??) theyll probably recommend backflushing with water at the end of each day (or two), and chemical backflushing every couple of weeks and thats very good advice. * It could get expensive if you use the Sunbeam cleaning tablets, but there are much cheaper cleaning options available.

If you follow good cleaning practices, and you look after the machine (e.g. dont abuse it by overdosing), then chances are youll get pretty good service from the Sunbeam machine.

If you buy one, it absolutely MUST be teamed with a decent grinder (minimum the Sunbeam EM0480 grinder) - this isnt optional - it really is a MUST. *I saw in a catalogue two weeks ago that theyre doing the "free grinder when you buy the EM6910 machine" promotion again. * I couldnt find any reference to it on the Sunbeam website though so dunno if its a misprint...
The Sunbeam isnt the best machine available, maybe not even the best machine in its price range depending on your circumstances, so it would be worth checking out the CS site sponsors on the left of the page for other options. *Keep in mind that many of the machines the sponsors sell will likely outlast a Sunbeam by a significant margin, so even a more expensive machine may be more economical in the long run. *

Orlando the answers you seek can be found by searching Coffee Snobs.

Use the search tab not the quick search box and dont forget to change the default search length to more than 1 week.

    Re: Any advice on em6910?

There is a wealth of knowledge held within the walls of this forum; some of us have had excellent service from these machines and believe they are a great way to begin the life of terrific coffee.

As Thunder said, search as much as you can and not just specifically about your machine, about grinders and texturing milk.

Many hold the opinion that the freshness of the coffee and the ability of the grinder along with the ability of the operator far exeed the need of a great machine.

    Welcome and good luck

My EM6910 Is Brilliant, but like previously stated the maintenance should be more regular than sunbeam recomends, keeping your machine clean should be your highest priority.

Does anyone know where to get cheap cleaning product and calc filters?

Look on the left hand side of the screen long list of esteemed sponsors many of whom sell all that can be desired when you think cleaning an espresso machine
