Remove shower disc holder from a Gaggia Classic

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
Can you buy a tool to help with removing the shower disc holder from a Gaggia Classic?

Ive tried prying it off in various ways but its stuck. Also, the metal is quite soft so I dont want to try too hard.

I want to remove it as I have replaced the gasket by slipping it over the shower disc holder, but the rubber gasket keeps popping out. Im hoping that if I remove the shower disc holder, clean everything, install the new gasket and then the shower disc holder, the gasket will stay in place.

    Many thanks,

    Steven.

    Hi Steven

I havent tried this on a Classic but this website might help

    http://www.bluebox.com.au/jcrayon/gaggia/

It mentions jiggling the screw driver tip to loosen it. Also, try it while the group head is still warm rather than cold.

it simple to remove, make sure you remove the 2 allen head bolts on either side of the shower screen bolt, then use a longer screw same size as the one you took off for the shower screen, screw it all the way in and it will force the shower screen holder out.

I had same problem and read this fix on a forum , worked a treat.

suggest you only do this if your gaggia has 3 way valve,
as other models have a spring loaded anti drip brass valve behind the shower screen holder centre screw and you may damage this if you screw a longer screw into it.

Do you mean the shower disc, ie the bit you remove with allen keys, or the actual shower screen?

I had a hell of an issue with the shower screen. The single screw holding it in place is very soft s/s, I ended up buring it over, and removing it by drilling it out carefully.

Lucky for me, the screw are available easily, so I bought a couple with the gaskets.

    Cheers

Just get to a decent screw place and get a counter sunk Alan head even better.

Amen to that, not only solves the current problem it also makes future removal a piece of cake. ;)

    Great idea...

I am buying something new soon, but if I was hanging onto the Gaggia, I would definately look into this....

    Cheers
