How do you clean your Sunbeam machine properly?

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
    Hey guys,

Just spent the last hour or so looking for info on cleaning my Sunbeam EM6910 machine but I still have a few questions that I would be grateful for if they could be confirmed:

    1. Is normal back flushing with water once a week enough?

    2. How often do you guys do a chemical back flush?

    3. I see some people stating that the back flush can also be done manually by letting the pressure build up - then turning off the water, then repeating this step a few times? Or is the normal programme the one to go for?

    4. Where to buy the cleaning tablets / powder?

    5. Is vinegar enough to do a de-scale with?

    6. How often do you guys unscrew the shower head to clean?

Many thanks in advance, Im delighted with the machine, and its great to be able to make coffee better then most coffee shops out there. ;D

    Hi Mallowkid

There are no hard rules on this, it depends on your usage, how you use it, your water, ... but Ill answer as best I can ...

Assuming youre making around a couple of shots a day, yes, as long as you do a proper chemical clean regularly (see next point).

About once a month. More if I make a lot (eg, I just had a party where I made about 12 in a row and then quite a few over the following days).

Yes you can do this. I usually do a few short runs with the rubber disk in the PF and the PF only loosely in the group and gently "wiggle" it to help get gunk out of the seal. But dont use it to replace a proper cleaning cycle.

    4. Where to buy the cleaning tablets / powder?
I use a teaspoon of cafetto espresso clean in place of the tablets, bought from Coffee Parts.

Some debate on this point, but I would suggest using a proper de-scaler. I use cafetto restore espresso machine de-scaler, also from Coffee Parts.

About every second clean. You get a feel for when its needed after a while.

    Hope this helps. :)

Dont know whereabouts you are, but coffee-a-roma are in Camberwell. Not open every day though.

I am happy to give you some backflush cleaner to get you started if you are near glen waverley. PM me if interested as I am not always on this forum, but do try to keep up to date - I just miss occasional posts.

Re: How do you clean your Sunbeam machine properly?

    Hi, newbie here
I just went through the Cafetto website, and apparently they have Espresso Clean in tablet form. Has anyone tried these on 6910?
I wonder if I should get the Espresso Clean powder, the tablet, or the S15 tablets instead
When backflushing with Espresso Clean powder, do you use the sealing disc and the put the powder on top of it?

    thanks in advance

    Hi rigs,

Havent tried the tablet so sorry, cant help you there. I use the powder just as you said - cleaning disk in, one teaspoon of powder on top and way you go. Works fine. Dont forget to de-scale as well (I use the Cafetto "restore" descaler powder).

    Thanks, pete
With the powder, do you use the automatic cleaning cycle?
