Breville BES 900 - Availability and Demonstration

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
    Hello All,

Is there an up to date ETA for the Breville BES 900?

Also, can Breville or anyone else say if there are any product demonstration sessions planned/ could be planned for potential customers to try before buying?

    Thanks.

    Hi Charlie,

The release dtae is some time in July- as http://coffeesnobs.com.au/YaBB.pl?num=1306475432

Two hand built pre-production machines have spent a week in the wild on demo at CS Beanology, Cuppacoffee and at Talk Coffee and are heading back to Breville this week.

    Thanks Chris.

Today I received a response from a Breville Customer Service Consultant advising that the BES900 would be available for purchase during the Christmas Period! What...are they serious? Does anyone know the facts?

    Cheers.

    Hi Charlie,

Unless something changed dramatically in the last couple of days, I dont think so.

ETA according to the team is still July.

Hopefully Phil or Adam can confirm.

    Hi Guys,

I dont think Brev will confirm this until its passed first QC and is ready for shipment. I have a rough idea when this should be happening but will leave it to phil or dave when the time is right...

Probably referring to Christmas in July. ;)

We may be able to organise another demo of the machine here at the shop, with the assistance of Breville.

We have some late breaking compliance issues that should be solved shortly with mass production getting started late June, so still looking like early August, but as Adam has pointed out, we never like to put out a date until a its almost on a boat........meantime, check out the latest copy of Bean Scene mag for some launch pics & a great front cover shot!

Guys, we have mass production starting June 27 & an initial QC date of July 8 & 9. So that puts the initial stock in our hands somewhere in late July depending on vessel schedules etc.

In other words........on time at this stage.

    Cheers, Phil

Nuthin wrong with that, nuthin :) :) Expectations are certainly high and from what has been said it would appear to be capable of living up to the hype. And that would be a good thing. That smart grinder I use at work certainly does, punches well above its wait.

Awesome news RE: mass production. Looking forward to the first reviews of the machine.

Quick question RE: pricing and deals: noticed that E61 are giving away a free smart grinder with purchase of the breville. Also, they are saying that they wont be beaten on price. Does this mean we could have a price war on our hands b/w site sponsors? :D

Its probably not a good idea to talk about price wars between sponsors on here as the actual "Information" thread got shut down because of price discussion.

But I do have a question? Who from Breville is going to send me one of their factory cut and polished naked portafilters for my machine? ;D pretty please ;)

Or at least any idea of pricing / availability for those?

Re: Breville BES 900 - Availability and Demonstration

    Hello howser,

You will find that many sponsors here work collaboratively and support each other. An example is my post in the Talk Coffee sponsor area which summarises whats currently on offer. This was not my idea, but its a good thing and a group of us plan to do our best to keep it happening.

A public declaration of "price war" against any other sponsor would be viewed in dim light by other sponsors. In addition, members are well and truly astute enough to see through hot air and to choose the level of knowledge and service which is right- be it internet only PO based sales or bricks and mortar.

Its all about obtaining the level of service and support which makes you comfortable.

Im looking forward to seeing any upgrades that come out for this machine. The polished portafilters are one of the things Im looking forward to.

Im also hoping (i know this wont happen as a factory upgrade) for a cool touch steam wand upgrade to eventually be available (whether aftermarket or not).

What I would have liked to see as part of the initial packages offered by the various sponsors selling the machine was a good tamper to go with it. That being said, I have to say, after seeing the integrated tamper, its not bad at all compared to other tampers you get with machines, at least its not plastic.

You will see that some of our packages offer one Nav.

Gavin (Bogav) is also planning a retrofit tamper.

Im all for a bit of group love but dont like the idea of price collusion (not that Im suggesting that happens, but just saying...)

I think in the case of a mainstream machine like the Breville most members would consider price before service. If something goes wrong service would be pretty widespread...

In reagrds to support to pull the best brew - well, isnt that what this forum is for :o

Anyways, I digress and dont want to troll. I think Ill retire to the shadows until this bad boy hits the market. Dont be sad - Ill be back!! (PS. If all goes well the BES 900 will be my first foray into the world of proper espresso!)

Price collusion - on this occasion I will excuse it, but only because the two main players arent called Coles and Woolies.

Re: Breville BES 900 - Availability and Demonstration

Just a note of clarification in regards to pricing...and Im not speaking on behalf of anyone else.

Price collusion generally refers to methods of keeping prices high - not as in this case, offering discounts. You can probably think of a couple of well known brands that seem to be very effective at keeping prices high.

Price fixing is different, and I think what may be suggested from some of the comments above.

The early adopter specials we have on offer are there for a limited time and limited number of sales.

While its true that Chris and I are offering the same package deals at this point in time, it may not always be the case. The Smart Grinder is such an example.

I think CS members are all pretty lucky to have several Sponsors interested in offering the Dual Boiler as well as the manufacturer presence and active participation.

Yes, but for many prople, reading comes a very poor second when compared to doing. I very frequently find that 10 minutes at a machine teaches way more than thousands of words of text and hours on the phone. Just because you read about flying a plane doesnt mean that you can land even a Cessna... ;)

    Yes Ive pre-ordered.

My decision on the BDB took quite some time and was a well informed choice, I expect the machine will give me many years of beautiful coffee making and I wanted a service quality to match that and hence why Ive chosen a sponsor that I feel confident in providing that.

The machine looks shinier than I expected but that could be due to the lights.

I thought the same. It may be there is still some protective plastic over the front panel ... either that or they have decided to move away from the brushed stainless look ...* perhaps because of what some of us have said about the lure of shiny Italian things! ;)

    Hi,

Thats still brushed stainless. It looks like those shots were taken in the meeting room we used as our base at the fatory? If so that room has more ceiling lights than any other in history....might explain the shine.

OK, so struggling to pass the time until this baby lands. A question I have RE: after sales warranty with the Breville.

If something goes wrong, will I need to take it back to the place of purchase for repairs? Or can I take it to a service centre?

    Hello Howser,

I think your question has been answered in the other threads. Your machine will need to go to a Breville service centre.

Breville are yet to confirm the specifics of how warranty and repair will work for the machine.

Just out of curiosity, Im not sure if this question is allowed here, but are any of the sponsors planning to have any packages (mainly concerned about grinder) for this machine? If so, could there be any hints at the price?

My 21st is coming up in a couple of months and Im feeling a bit extravagant, I am ever so tempted to invest in this machine :P

    HI talk,

I have read through the other threads (as much as humanly possible) and am a bit confused - specifically about a post that you made RE: warranty. You stated that if you purchase the product from a retailer that doesnt have a breville account then the warranty process could be more complicated than just sending it in to Breville. This poses a number of questions: How do you know who has a breville account? What happens if this is gifted to you and you cant get the original invoice?

You will have to contact each sponsor individually. PM me if you want to know what my research (limited) has revealed about deals and pricing.

are any of the sponsors planning to have any packages (mainly concerned about grinder) for this machine?

Talk Coffee, Cuppacoffee and E61 Espresso Machinery all have package deals.

send them an email or give them a call

How do you know who has a breville account? What happens if this is gifted to you and you cant get the original invoice?
    Hi Howser999,

I think what Chris may have been referring to here is that you need to be careful that the machinery you purchase is not a grey import.

A grey import is usually something that is purchased from a supplier overseas and does not always come with a domestic warranty or guarantee.

Often grey imports are sold on online auction sites or online stores (Not E61 by the way* :) )

Chris has made a very good point about grey imports because its not always obnvious that what you are purchasing is a grey import. The packaging might be the same and sometimes a warranty card will be enclosed as well.

The best bet is to purchase from a reputable retailer, even better to purchase from a coffeesnob sponsor.

If you have any concerns about a business selling Breville machinery you can always contact Breville to determine if they are, in fact, a legitimate Reseller.

If you have received a Breville product as a gift, unfortunately you will require a receipt to obtain warranty service. This is mainly so that you can prove the item is still within the warrantable period.

    Regards

    Matt

OK, so struggling to pass the time until this baby lands.
So...what I think you should be doing is making sure that where the baby is going to live is all ready for it! And then post pictures so we can see too where youre going to put the baby and approve of said location... :D ;D ;) Thatll give you a few days Id say... ;D

... so still looking like early August ...
A week either side of my birthday is no problem for me, in either case its fair justification to the wife for a birthday present.

Re: Breville BES 900 - Availability and Demonstration

Hi - Im new to the forum, and am seeking a replacement for my 10 year old Pasquini Livia 90. The Breville BES900 looks like the perfect choice. Now that Ive decided, however, Im anxious to move on, so...

Any word on availability of the BES900 in the US? Are there any US dealers out there who are reading this forum and plan to take pre-orders? Any other tidbits for a patience-impaired coffee fanatic?

    Hi Steve,

The Dual Boiler is slated to arrive in the US a month after the AUS production, so you should see it in stores early Sept. I know for sure Williams-Sonoma will be ranging it. Ill get a list of the other US accounts who will be stockists & post back here. Ill try to find out about any deals as well.

    Cheers, Phil

Long time lurker here... finally through it was time to sign up with the imminent arrival of the Dual Boiler!* :)

Ive noticed Breville have had a page up for a week or so now, but have also recently added some new pics and instruction booklet PDF.
