    EM6910 Steamer wont stop!

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
    Hey everyone,

Got a problem with the EM6910 at work ...

I was just walking past the machine, and to my suprise, there was water all over the bench (the steamer was not over the drip tray)... so I stopped and realised that the steamer was gently leaking steam and water!!!! The pump is making a very quite noise continuously and wont stop.. There doesnt seem to be anything wrong with the knob for the steamer either.

I thought that the upper body of the machine, under the buttons for example on the front, is quite a bit hotter than usual, in fact I cant touch it for long before I have to take my hand off.. Im sure its not usually like that...but I could be imagining.

For the moment Ive just turned the machine off, and once its cool Ill start it back up again.. any one else had this happen before?

Ill see how it goes, and post again soon.

I have never had this exact problem but I know that the body of my EM6910 on the steam wand side does get extremely hot if I leave the machine on for a long time.

Do this... it sounds like a power spike has hit it..(one of the negatives to Electronics in a espresso machine)

Pull the power from the power point and leave it off for about 1 hr... and try again...

If you get the chance, first off make sure the steam knob is turned OFF. If that is part / open then you are getting what I might expect. It could be that that the valve is sticky or that some crud has got in there.

Open and close it and if it shuts off then the pump should stop. If not then you have bigger probs.

    Let us know what happens.

This is what the instruction manual says to do to reset:

    Factory Reset
To undo any changes made to the program
you can revert back to the original factory
    settings.
To do this you need to follow the instructions
    below:
    1. Insert the power cord into a 230-240V AC
power outlet and switch the power ‘ON’.
Note: Although the espresso machine is ON
at the power outlet ensure that the actual
espresso machine power is ‘OFF’. Therefore
no lights will be illuminated on the espresso
    machine control panel.
    2. Press and hold down the ‘MANUAL’ button.
    3. While still holding down the ‘MANUAL’
button briefly press the ‘POWER’ button
    and release.
    4. Release the ‘MANUAL’ button.
Note: This resets ALL the program settings
back to factory settings, including the
    program espresso pour volumes, espresso
& steam thermoblock temperatures and the
    steam pump rate.
    5. To indicate that you have successfully reset
the factory settings the light above the
‘POWER’ button will flash and 4 beeps will
    sound.
Note: The expresso machine will then
automatically power on and begin heating up.

Okay ... thanks for that everyone - Ill try it all on Thursday when i get back to work.. I did already give the knob a real good play and it definately wasnt left open or stuck / not closing properly... so yeah.. .. hrm..
!!! Ill let yas know.. I hope its nothing serious though..
This is the 2nd problem, and 2nd machine weve had (first one replaced under warranty).. I guess when you look at this machine its either a bargain or a risk, and Im starting to wonder if its more of a risk than a bargain.
Anyway Ill post the results after Thu.

    MMMmmm :-/
Still cant fix it.. we left it unplugged and off for the night.. weve reset the factory defaults.. and it is still making a soft "pump.. pump ... pump.. pump... pump..." noise which gradually gets louder and louder if you use the machine.. the steamer is still continuously dripping (very slowly though).. I lifted the machine up this morning, and a few drops of water actually came out of the vents UNDERNEATH!
I think its totally crapped itself.. any advice?
I might have to ring harvey norman.. I feel like a fool though cuz our first machine got rusty panels in the first week so we took that back.. so yeah theyll be like "ohhh those bums again reckon theres something wrong with their machine!"..
    :-/ :-/ :-/ :-/ :-/

    What he said.

It must be a pain to have double trouble and still read about those of us who are running well.

I would suggest you are also thinking, maybe I should try another brand...

AS one who is very happy with the EM 6910, I can only suggest you hang in there. They are not a bad unit and for the price, I can assure you they delver a better product than other cheep systems.

If you do strike out on unit number 3, I would suggest you collate all your experiences and provide it all directly to Sunbeam.

haha yeah totally.. thats exactly how I feel. Fingers crossed.
Anyway, sunbeam were fairly okay about it, theyve organised a courier to pick it up (for free) in the morning, and theyll have it repaired and sent back.
    : )
