    Rancilio Lucy BOL not working

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
Sorry about the new thread but I couldnt work out how to edit the title in my other thread.
Basically I replaced the brew thermostat as recommended and everything is fine, but I was watching a couple of Youtube videos about temperature surfing and noticed something I hadnt seen before. That the BOL comes on when the boiler kicks in. On my machine that light only goes Red when it is out of water in the reservoir. Would this mean another thermostat is gone too or another problem. I think this would make things a bit easier when pulling shots and steaming milk.
    Cheers

    Gday kudeta...

Normally, this indicating light is powered from the same connections that supply the Boiler Element. Perhaps one of these has become dislodged or a cable has broken away from the cable lug. I cant remember if you said that you bought the "Lucy" brand new or 2nd-Hand but if it was previously used, maybe the previous owner did a bit of their own wiring maintenance and made a mistake or two. If you suspect the latter, then I would employ the services of a licensed electrician to inspect the wiring for you to make sure all is safe and properly configured.

Thats about I all I can suggest at this stage mate..... Sorry :-?

    Hi kudeta,

I think your nancy doesnt have the boiler indicating light unless you mod it. Here is a link to tell you how to do it.

    Hope it helps

    hi kudeta

been a while since working on a rancilio audrey / nancy

the top red switch is attached to the level sensor for the cold water tank,
this will turn on when the cold water level gets too low, and will shut the power too the element and pump

Kopi_O and Fix, does this information relate to the Lucy as well as the audrey/nancy? My understanding was that the "Lucy" was a Silvia with a Rocky grinder in the one unit.
I dont know if the Lucy has this function enabled on it. I thought it would though.

    lucy instructions attached

    http://www.mrcappuccino.com/bulletin/instlucy.pdf

the silvia, Nancy, Audrey and lucy all use the same internals with the boiler (approx 300ml) offset to the group

the Betsy has a smaller boiler(approx 150ml) and also uses a smaller PF (53mm) still to rancilio standards

the wiring is slightly different from one model to another

if you look at the instruction booklet it shows an additional plastic unit that fits into the cold water tank
this is for the pressure sensor which detects low water level

when this is fitted, the top small light (usually red) is the low water warning light, and can be checked by lifting the plastic unit out of the water.
out of the water lite on , submerged lite off

if like the silvia which has two hoses into the cold water tank, (sometimes one with a filter), the secondary(shorter hose) is the OPV return pipe
with this setup the top, (usually orange) light is the temp lite

Re: Rancilio Lucy BOL not working

    Thanks again Graham,

Just to clarify, the Red Water level indicator light works. Its the temperature light going orange that doesnt work when the boiler kicks in. Does that change anything with the diagnosis?

I have a red rancilio Lucy I just purchased, the button icons are different. I think it's the earlier version.
It has the grinder on/off button at the top side of the grinder, the buttons are transparent yellow, not black

    Help!?
