    Flowmeter diagnostic help

Hi all, I wonder if anyone can help shed some light on symptoms Im seeing?

Ive been looking at fixing the volumetric dosing on the Carimali, having found some instructions on the internet on how to supposedly program the shot keys. My attempts at doing this had been unsuccessful, with a programmed key just delivering a continuous stream with no shutoff at any particular volume.
This led me to believe that the flowmeters may not be sending pulses (amongst many other possible causes) so I did some investigation and some gentle technical tapping in case the impellor was a little stuck. In the meantime the controller boxes had also been removed and replaced as part of other diagnoses.

The result of all this has been a change in behaviour: now if I program a key for a certain volume that key then becomes completely inoperative (delivers zero volume) when the machine is put back in to operation mode.

This at least tells me that the programming sequence does *something*, but Im now more puzzled about what could be wrong. If I was getting no pulses from the flowmeter (so the controller gets a pulse count of zero when the key is programmed) would that cause the behaviour Im seeing? Or would people expect that to result in continuous flow still as I saw before?

Just wondering if what Im now seeing eliminates the flowmeters (and connections etc) themselves from my investigations or not! If any people more knowledgable than myself on the specifics of these things can help Id be most appreciative.

    Many thanks,

    Dennis

    Re: Flowmeter diagnostic help

    Dennis,

I cant help you with your problem, but I had a problem with a flowmeter which turned out to be a broken wire from the meter to the doser box. The symptom was that you could press any button on the key pad and get continuous flow until you manually switched it off.

I am interested in the info re programming though...care to post the link?

    Cheers,

    Chris

    Re: Flowmeter diagnostic help

Thanks Chris. Ive done some continuity testing and Im reasonably confident the wiring is intact. Thinking about it more Im pretty certain what Im seeing still indicates that no pulses are coming from the flowmeter. That could still be a problem with the wire that brings those pulses back to the controller, as its pretty hard to test that, but my first culprit would be a stuck impellor in the flowmeter itself, so Ill check that.

I dont have a link for the programming info any more, but for mine its very straightforward. Theres a run/program switch on the side of the box (containing the electronics) under the drip tray. You turn that to program, hit the stop key first, then the key you want to program - water flows - then hit stop again when youve got the volume you want. Repeat for each key you want to program then flick the switch under the drip tray back to run mode.

    Cheers,

    Dennis
