swaping pump from rotary to VIBE on commercial HX (can it work?)

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
I was just shooting the breeze with another SYD CSr and we were discussing a La pav 1grp machine (commercial style??) that might be available to purchase.

We were discussing that although it was a plumbed machine it might be a VIBE pump. The conversation drifted to discussion on to high end HX(non commercial) home machines and how most (all?) of these seem to be VIBE.

Part of the discussion was also around a possible failed rotary pump on another machine (commercial HX plumbed) and the idea of using a VIBE pump on a machine that has a rotary as standard.

    would it work?
would it allow a commercial machine to run better from a "tank"
would 1 vibe pump work a 2grp commercial HX ?? (eg are 2 grp la pavs vibe?)

We needed someone with more VIBE experience to question :)
    any thoughts on the idea?

A single vibe pump cannot service two groups. A vibe pump will give out 12-15 bar of pressure (depending upon spec) which can be reduced down to 9 bar with the use of an opv. But if we double the flow (using two groups at once) then the system pressure will drop - lets say by half (this isnt technically correct but close enough for this purpose) leaving you with a maximum of 6-8.5 bar at each group.

A rotary pump however is designed to keep the system pressure at the set point - meaning if one group or three are in operation each will receive 9bars of pressure.

You can replace a vibe pump with a rotary but I wouldnt consider replacing a rotary with a vibe (besides rotary pumps are easily serviceable - so the problem pump can probably be fixed)

Yes this is way over simplified but it is just to get the point over.

I have also looked at this for about 5 min :D Thus interested for a number of reasons..

For a small single group machine... I can see why some one might want to replace the rotary with a vibe and make use of teh space... ie a tank.. I have a number of vibe pumps and some quite large E5 and a EK

You state the rotary are easily serviced... Please explain as I have not been able to find info or parts... Every contact I find, just wants the pump sent in..

    Thanks

It was more a discussion around the idea, i agree i like the rotary (and commercial HX) and would not swap vibe for rotary but was thinking about the idea on a smaller commercial HX. something like 1grp a Brasilia or maybe 1 grp boema if the pumps had failed or missing to make them smaller and maybe fit a tank as well.

i thought a 2grp would be pushing the limits but 2 vibes crossed my mind. The retro fit cost would then outweigh a new rotary pump price but on two vibes....... it did cross my mind that many home users would not run a 2grp at the same time but (both groups) and thus might work "ok"

AM I know who to PM for a Vibe pump :)

    cheers
