If you dont have a car and are in the CBD then Di Bella in Nth Melbourne is easy to get to by tram. They would be the pick of the easy places to get to that stock gear and a good coffee. As AM mentioned earlier check out that link for plenty of good coffees :) .

Thanks for suggestions, I will have a renter car so can get around... I am going to shout myself a couple of new tampers, knockbox and whatever else grabs me.
I have made a note of Di Bella, talk Coffee... I guess Lygon St would be a good start.

    thanks.

Re: Arriving in Melbourne from NZ on Monday and

as you have a car try this list and see how you go.

Seven Seeds and Di Bella Nth Melbourne The Auction Rooms are good too.
Talk Coffee (make an appointment) and Genovese in Northcote
Back into the city past Veneziano, Padre or Atomica :D

It is sort of a loop of the North-NE. Plenty more but that will be a days worth of caffiene ;)

Not sure Lygon St will do much for you coffee wise ;)

If you are over visiting Talk Coffee then Foxy Brown Cafe is close enough to stop by and sample the "flight" of coffee. You wont be disappointed, they do good food as well.

Dont waste too much effort trying to discuss Rugby Union with the locals as most arent aware that it is the world game ;)

The Melbourne locals mostly follow Aussie Rules

Now if you visit Queensland we can talk about what team is the best in the world :-X :o

One of my favourite All Blacks players is
    Frank Bunce

Dont forget Maling room in maling road, Canterbury - little bit of a drive out of the CBD area but personally I think its worth the visit, coffee and food only really, not much in the way of hardware I saw last time I was there

worth a visit for brekky or lunch and a few coffees though, just dont ask for a MUG :P

You cant miss with either Atomica or The First Pour (Veneziano) in terms of quality coffee.

Excellent suggestion and definitely worth venturing out of the CBD for a visit.

They dont stock any hardware but their coffee is the best ive had in Melbourne (still have a couple of well regarded places to try but Maling Room set the bar very high) and their breakfasts are divine (The Banjo Eggs are my personal favourite).
