    Spatter using naked portafilter

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
    Hi all,

I just converted the portafilter from my Lelit/Mokita machine to be naked and started pulling shots with it. The shots are reasonable (always room for improvement) but I get fine spatters all over the tray and cup.

They are so small, that I cant even see them coming out, but I assume this is a bad sign. I couldnt find a definitive answer here or on other forums so I thought I ask what other peoples experience was with naked/bottomless portafilters.

    Cheers,

    Ben

Yes they are a sign of bad things.
Thats the main reason people use a bottomless, to find and correct such things.

But its not like normal chanelling. *The main pour is good - good timing, good crema, no premature blonding, tiger striping, etc, but I get this spatter. *Im not sure what to do differently. *None of those links mention this problem specifically.

    Cheers,

    Ben

The spattering is from micro-channelling and the solution that works for me is the Weiss Distribution Technique.

I started a thread here on distribution a short while ago when I tried it out.
