    Custom tamper...I had a laugh

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
First ever woodturned item with the added difficulty of doing it on my minilathe (metal) so things constantly keep getting in the way.

Handle is rock maple and the base is black Delrin (Acetal).
Finish is CA. Really quick and easy, i love it.

For the record, I dont like the shape. I think the whole thing is too kind of chunky. I just made it as I went, so next time I will design it on SU before going ahead with making another from Stainless steel and redgum.

I really like everything but the pointy top to the handle.

The dark base and pale maple are a beautiful combination.

I like the wood on the group handle as well!

I like the general look of it
But like Greg the point in the top may be a hand killer

How is the balance and general feel

Good work Martrix ...... you have chosen a hard timber there in the rock maple and I am not sure the red gum would be much easier.

Do the woodworkers know about this?

    Cheers

Yes the Camphor Laurel on the group handle is courtesy of the Angry Man. ;)
As for the tamper, I dont like it much. To me the proportions are all wrong. It doesnt flow like a good womans body. :o

Hey Stinky, didnt know you where on here. Yes I think the redgum will be a little bit harder again. If it gets too hard I can cheat and just chuck on the tool post holder and make the lathe do the hard work. ;D

Some people spend more on grinders than on their brew machines.

Some people roast their own beans.

    Some people use naked portafilters.

Some people make their own tampers!

Whats next? Growing coffee in the back yard? ;D

nice work martrix, much better than my first attempt!

the good thing about the acetal head is that you can tap all you like on your group handle and it wont leave a mark. *

Your future stainless one will have a much better feel to it tho, when it has that weight in it.

Its good fun isnt it? *;D
