    Can anyone offer any suggestions as to why water is leaking around the edges of the PF. I cant tighten the PF any further. Could the rubber ring/seal be worn? It doest seem to be but then Im not sure

    Errr toss a penny and check to see how long the string is... Then divide by two and you will have ya answer...

    Sorry... I can think of 101 reasons, but they may all be wrong as you have not provided teh extra information.

    How about some background...

    Age of machine
    What sort of machine
    What model
    What type of basket are you using
    What beans
    What grind
    How far are you locking teh group in
    What dose level
    How hard are you tamping
    Etc
    etc
    etc

    Welcome to Coffee Snobs.

    Questions:
    Where are you? (please update your profile)
    What machine?
    How old?
    When was the seal last changed?
    How often is the machine cleaned and how?

    Answers to some of those might help us guesstimate the length of the string.

    if youve had it a while, why not change it to be sure. you could also check that the filter basket is not damaged. Good luck!

    Welcome to CS Scott.

    a) group seal (or "undercup washer") worn;
    b) overpacking the coffee filter
    c) machine / model dependent: built up pressure may have at some time forced the group seal out of position, and grinds have made their way "underneath" it into the groove that it sits in, making the seal sit unevenly;
    d) use of incorrect coffee filter (americanspeak = "basket" :D)

    Tightening the group handle onto the group does not necessarily fix this kind of leak....just like when you overtighten a leaking water tap to try and stop it leaking, but it doesnt stop.....

    Over to you.

    It could be as simple as you are packing in to much coffee into the PF basket

    It is important that you find the correct dose or puck depth level after tamping for your machine

    That level is a hairs whisker from the water dispersion mesh on the group head

    And yes a little bit more info would help as we are not mind readers *;D
