Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
(Picking this thread as the most recent one dealing with Auto machines)

Our 5-year old work Super Auto machine is due for replacement - its a Saeco that made passable coffee at first, and now spits out brown water... probably a mix of wear-and-tear, infrequent servicing, and stale beans.

Ive been asked for input for the replacement - not sure of the budget yet, but Id guess around $3k or so. Office has around 20 staff, most of which currently get coffee from the various Baristas in the area.

I suggested a good semi-pro E61 & grinder, but thats "too complex & too messy" for the receptionist & general staff to use... and Id probably end up working all day as the office barista if I push for a manual setup!

Im not expecting a ~$3k auto machine to produce coffee as good as my Silvia, but it should at least be drinkable & an alternative to going outside for coffee...

    Any recommendations?

Im going to fix the bean issue by changing our bean ordering process to get freshly roasted beans locally (maybe BeanBay or Campos or similar), rather than a box of tins of Illy that was roasted 6 months ago in Italy!

Whatever you get, make sure you buy it, and can adjust it to give the best it can.

The last round at work went to a leased machine and we get stale beans, pale brown water, and heavily watered warm milk--with the adjustment controls locked out! :P

I now have 2 others using my home roast through a Kyocera grinder and Presso. :D

    Hi shauno,

For an office, Id recommend a LaSpaziale mini Vivaldi II and a timed doserless grinder. The volumetrics will reduce the coffee process to a button push and a milk texture event and Id figure most of the employees should be capable of that. ::)

You would go very close to budget if you add a Compak K3T, but a Macap M4D or perhaps a doser grinder might be better if the budget is there?

The only thing to consider is that it might be worth plumbing in given the anticipated volume. Perhaps a Vivaldi II?

Youre most welcome to give me a buzz if you would like to chat over the options.

    Chris
