???? Do i need a Megga to Test it ??? Know plenty of Leccos who owe Favours or can I test it with my Multimeter??

As an aside I Contacted Lygon Imports re this unit - 20 yrs old and the Nice Girl Said we have never Sold this unit..
Sent her back an Email, Pointing out that it may have been before her time (and I was polite there )
and mentioned the little Foil Label on the boittom that gave all the Info [Agency LYGON IMPORT] and the Tel number was (03) 486 1572
and said your move Sweetie , Havent heard back from her yet!

Re: My 20 yr old Mas tripped the Earth Leakage

    Hi Tepin,

Have never found Lygon Imports to be particularly responsive to any of my requests over the years.... perhaps they have a preference for dealing direct with retail vendors and not we mere consumers :(.

Regarding your E/L query, I would definitely recommend that this problem is best determined and rectified by a licensed sparky. You can of course check under the bonnet and try to spot any obvious signs of wire insulation chafing, or black sooty deposits (all this with the unit unplugged from the GPO of course) as this may reduce the time (and therefore cost) that a sparky will have to spend carrying out repairs.

    Cheers,
    Mal.

    Agree entirely with Mal...

However, just a little further information that may interest but is really only "academic". Mostly when we are brought machines exhibiting this kind of problem, it turns out to be the electric element.

Very often, the earth leakage circuit picks up a fault that would otherwise go undetected through wiring that is not connected through an earth leakage circuit (as in, wont trip out regular circuit breakers). This sometimes catches out people that are moving from one home to another, and the new home is more modern & has an earth leakage circuit combined into the electrical fit out...all of a sudden appliances that worked "perfectly" in the old place, set off the earth leakage circuit in the new place...

Doesnmadder...get it fixed because it indicates a problem.

If you are going to ring Lygon Imp. about something that old, you have to ask for Eddie, the girls grandfather, the fellow that started the business.

    Thanks Mal
Funny I asked a Sparky this morning and he must have been just a drone working under his bosses License/ Funny you get a bit of that in that trade// I Have 30+ years of background in the Painting Industry, mainly Commercial the last 20/// Ill see a Mate Today and get him to track the Fault//// Nothing Obviously burnt or loose..

Re: My 20 yr old Mas tripped the Earth Leakage

    Yep,

Know what you mean there Tepin. Some so-called wire-jerkers go under the pseudonym of Electrician and one has to wonder how on earth these sorts of jokers are allowed to be let loose among the general public at large, with a license yet :-?.

Anyway, any half decent sparky with a commercial or industrial background should be able to help you out and like FC said, its more than likely going to be the element but it pays to be both safe and sure. All the best,

    Mal.

Re: My 20 yr old Mas tripped the Earth Leakage

You could try a circuit board spray or similar around anything that looks dirty inside and see if that helps.

The earth leakage detector is a godsend though.

Even moisture or water in an appliance can trigger it as well as any sort of conductivity between components which can result in leakage of current.

I think FC is right that your element is the most likely cause. You can get someone to check the resistance with a multimeter and find out pretty quickly.

    Hmmm,

Sadly, that seems to be the norm for them..... hope you get a satisfactory result though,

Re: My 20 yr old Mas tripped the Earth Leakage

    Hey Tepin,

dont feel bad, you are not being singled out...see Mals comment "...Sadly, that seems to be the norm for them....."

If this is genuinely the norm, then they may be quite used to receiving and then probably ignoring bad telephone manner as exhibited by callers. You might surprise (both them as well as yourself) if you adopt a totally opposite approach, very politely say you are concerned that your emails went astray, and advise that you really *really really need them to help you...now...

And then, maybe that wont work either..I dunno, never tried that one!

Eddie Parisi is the girls grandfather, or grandfather in law. As far as I know he still goes in "casually", but the grand kids basically run the show. Whatever. *If you get to talk to him he is softly spoken and very knowledgeable about the equipment he has sold / sells....so dont forget to be nice or maybe they wont let you talk to him *;)

One last point about contacting companies by email...email traffic has increased exponentially with companies now virtually needing to keep someone sitting at a keyboard all day replying to what really amounts to...a high proprtion of time wasting enquiries. This ties up one whole employees wages on stuff that in many cases doesnt bring any income. Lots of people make enquiries by email because they dont want *personal contact, and you spend an hour basically replying to stuff that would only have taken 5 minutes to answer by phone. (please dont think I am saying your enquiry is a time waster..far from it if you need service. I am just making a very general observation).

Some companies dont handle this very well and just ignore email thinking, that if the topic of dicsussion is really that important to the email inquirer, then he/she will finally telephone when they dont get an email reply.

    Takes all kinds!

Trouble is, when they eventually phone up, *the frustraion it sometimes results in a less than polite telephone manner.

Suggest to all, that use of the phone is still the best way to get results in the first place as it makes a personal connection with someone rather than with a machine.

Sincerely Hope you get the result you want.

    Regards,
    FC.

Re: My 20 yr old Mas tripped the Earth Leakage

    Hi again Guys,

A lot of what you say is true FC, but even if you use the "Contact" page on Lygons very own web page, it is still very much pot luck as to whether you receive a reply. For someone in my position with extremely limited income and living in the Qld bush, making STD phone calls to try and chase up someone who even seems to ignore their own web-based contact system, borders on an extremely futile expenditure of ones time, effort and money. I much prefer to deal with businesses such as yours who at least find the time somewhere in their busy schedules to respond to genuine queries.

In the case of my Mokita, I eventually tried contacting the factory in Italy and via this back door, Lygon were then encouraged to contact me. After many frustrating months with plenty of respect and courtesy proffered from yours truly, my problem was eventually solved. I really dont want to have to go through that again I can assure you :(,

    Mal.

Well I had some time up my sleeve/ Actually made some time and did some intensive Internet Searches/ WHilst i was not really successful in finding the Mas /
I did find an Express 2000 which is also give on the bottom foil sticker as well as a Mario ?
This I found in an Argentine Website.. It looks like my MAS may actually be an Early Imat / Similiar to the Mokita but with a White Epoxy painted Body..

    Gday All,
After reading polls like this I was getting a bit worried about dealing with Lygon imports. After waiting for a reply to my email I decided to ring them. The results I got om the telephone were very impressive. Daniella was very helpful and my parcel arived 2 working days later.
