    Hi there!

I was wondering if it would be a good idea to use hot water instead of cold water in the water tank of my espresso machine to improve temperature stability?

    Hello and welcome jsrenaud.

To improved temperature stability, things can be done at the other end of the process. This is why many machine makers build in a PID or some owners add an aftermarket PID controller.

Whats a PID controller? Well I just had to looked it up. PID stands for "proportional integral differential" and it relates to a process to continuously correct the temperature to avoid any large overshoots and undershoots that can occur with simple temperature control systems.

You can still get good coffee without all this, but it is more difficult to be consistent.

    Enjoy your coffee.
