    ECM Botticelli II T?

Everyone knows about ECMs Giotto Premium, but does anyone have any real knowledge about the revamped version of the ECM Botticelli, called the II T.

It seems like an up market PID version of the Rancilio Silvia. I say, PID, because it has a built in thermometer, which is displayed on the front in analogue form. Whether this really controls the temperature or just reads it out is another matter. If it is a readout, then I gues it isnt really a PID, but still it might be useful for temperature surfing.

I know one can get the version without a thermometer in Australia through the Coffeewarehouse (for around $1,300 a bit steep!!) but does anyone know whether the T version is available here, how much it would cost, whether it is any good? By any good, I mean better than the benchmark single boiler non-HX machine the Rancilio Silvia.

Heres a link to the ecm website for some basic info and a pic.

    Hmm.

I looked at ecm australias website and found no mention of the Botticelli II T, so I gave them a call and yes, they are currently testing the machine with a view to bringing a few in to sell. The guy I spoke to, who was fairly knowledgeable and informative, said they will be here around late May, and said they will cost around $995. More info will be up on their website shortly.

So that makes life a bit more interesting in the high end single boiler machine class. Perhaps some competition for Rancilio. The fact that the Botticelli has a thermometer is a big plus, and if the machine is really a down scaled commercial machine (as opposed to an upscale domestic) then it really might be worth a look for those who either dont have the money, or the kitchen bench space, for a Giotto or evan an Isomac Zaffiro (the top single boiler non-HXer around).

    Hi,

Noticed that the Botticelli is about 3Kg lighter than a Silvia though, so this makes me wonder about the origins of the machine, re.... is a scaled down commercial or scaled up domestic. Seems like the latter to me,

    Cheers,
    Mal.

This would be a very different beast from the Giotto and Silvia:
    • It uses an unspecified group rather than the E61 in the Giotto. (They say it is the same as the ECM Raffaello which is a big machine though)
    • The boiler is a diminutive 0.4 litres which is slightly larger than the Silvia. Interestingly the earlier Botticellis used a 0.5 litre boiler so this is aimed at a slightly different market.
    • Analogue temperature gauge is not likely to be easy to read accurately and will probably not be as responsive as a digital readout.
    • No pressure gauge.
    • Based on the dimensions the water tank is about the same size as the Silvias.
    • The earlier Botticelli I and II models dont seem to have been particularly popular as there is very little consumer info out there.
    • Its a couple of kilograms lighter than a Silvia.
    • It looks to be quite a bit more expensive than a Silvia.
    • ECM service and spare parts are very good.
My comments are not a critique of this machine, rather a comparison of some features that might be important to you. 8)

    Cheers
