What I forgot to add was "best value E61 Group HX machine available in Australia"? Does not look that ugly to me. All stainless etc, similar to LaScalla etc

    Hi Linden,

Yep, the Expobar Lever is a great little machine and has gathered some very favourable reviews by a number of well known geeks. Regarding Service and Support in Australia though, Im not really up with that side of things and you may have to contact a couple of retailers, maybe our sponsors ;D, and see if that aspect of the Expobars is as up to par as the actual machines themselves.

All things being equal though, Expobar make a high quality machine and as far as "bang for buck" is concerned, they are certainly right up there. If I had the money and was looking for a good HX machine, they would certainly be on my short-list of hardware to check out. All the best,

    Mal.

Re: Is the Expobar Lever the best value HX machine

Not wishing to be facetious but this is just a quick word regarding the specific wording of the topic, because there is a little more to this than may at first "meet the eye".

Topic: "...Is the Expobar Lever the best value HX machine available in Australia? *I am interested in your thoughts and feedback on the reliability and performance of the machine...."

    Reply for lateral thinkers:

    a) It is most probably just as reliable and performs probably in an equivalent manner to many other semi-commercial machines of similar style/type/size.

    b) Info about standard of build, finish & looks have not been requested here.

    c) "best value" is a many splendoured thing because it means different things to different people, and it can only be judged simply if say, we compare the RRP for different brand/model machines in a similar grouping at any particular time, BUT, IT DOES NOT TAKE INTO CONSIDERATION other real life factors for example where a site sponsor may from time to time make special offers to forum participants on competing equipment that would normally (at RRP) cost more than the Expobar Lever machine.

I would not presume to speak for other Forum Sponsors but it is always possible that specially negotiated Forum participant prices on more expensive competing equipment, might bring the more expensive equipment down in price to a similar level (and it might not) , making the more expensive and perhaps more sought after equipment much better value instead.

In which case it might "pay" serious buyers to check how their Forum membership might actually work in their favour and reduce the regular RRP of some models, at the point at which they are actually cashed up and almost ready to buy (not some time beforehand when its only a "fishing expedition" for information that could change in the mean time).

    No?

    Regardz,
    FC.

Re: Is the Expobar Lever the best value HX machine

I agree with FC. I was recently offered an E61 auto-dosing machine for $600 below RRP by someone who knew me as a "coffeesnob". That woud have been below the RRP for an Expobar Office Lever and for what I think was a much nicer machine. Alas, I would have been lynched if Id accepted the offer. Then one of the site sponsors came to the rescue, contacting me at work to tell me that they had a second-hand Bezzerra BZ 35e that had been fully serviced, for a brilliant price. I couldnt resist and now have a commercial HX machine for just a bit more than a new Silvia.

So in the end I didnt have to settle for an internet "bargain" or gamble on an ebay "bargain". I have a machine that I know can be easily serviced with available parts and that comes from a reputable vendor.

ok ... thanks for that ...

As for service, I guess it depends where you are. Ive heard from Simon James (a coffeegeek) that service in melbourne is good, and Rob at Forsyths in sydney answered all my service questions when I was doing my shopping around - he assured me that they can fix it, if anything should happen to it. I dont know about the rest of the country.
