Do I need the Silvia/Rocky Stand?

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
Im considering purchasing The Silvia/Rocky combo. Question is do I really need to pay the $150 or so extra for the stand, I mean does it do anything for the coffee, or does it just look nicer?

A little intro about me... I got my first machine I got last week (yes last week), a $100 P.O.S. from www.dealsdirect.com.au . It came with a grinder built in so I thought "oh goody this will do the job". Now I realise you really do get what you pay for. Ive had better instant coffee. Its probably partially user error, i.e. me, but my s.o. who worked for a while in a cafe, cant get anything decent out of it either. I think this ones headed for eBay...

Hmmm.. I dont think it makes the coffee better, but it does make cleanup and storage of associated bits and pieces better.

I got the base after 2 months of working the combo without it and have found the base helps me keep the area a lot cleaner. I also find the knockbox to be very useful.

Im a great fan of the base, I think its a winner if you have the Rocky/Silvia combo.

Yes, I bought mine off a CS member and I think it is great. I dont use the "knock drawer" as I have a knock box. The drawers are good for bits of gaskets, screwdriver, spare baskets, etc.

I also like the raised height of the Silvia and Rocky and it all fits nicely.

    Cheers

I think the stand is a good idea and worth the money.

I sold my stand/base to franjae only when I bought the Bezzera which is 35kg and a bit big.

I got the base too, and I dont regret it, but I wish it was a bit deeper, so that I could fit the tamper in as well [smiley=laugh.gif]

Re: Do I need the Silvia/Rocky Stand?

Having initially decided against the base when I bought the Rocky, I realised just now reading this thread that it would solve another problem I have - the steam wand is too close to the benchtop when using a 1.0 litre jug, I have to turn the Silvia so that the wand goes over the edge of the bench so that I can move the jug down further. Having the extra height offered by the stand would fix this problem! Being able to sweep grinds from Rocky straight into a drawer would also be a bonus.

I originally bought the rocky/silvia combo without the base and as TinTub says, the height thing was an issue. With the base you get better clearance, which I had by placing the big chopping board under silvia. But that turned out to be a pain because the wife complained about me taking up real estate in the kitchen and pinching the chopping board. So the SS base was the ideal solution. You get the height, looks and storage. I dont use the knock box either, made my own. That tray is reserved for sweeping spilt grinds into.
