    Whats in the (black) box?

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
Ive just got back to fiddling with my Rancillio S10, and I know that Fresh Coffee gave me some advice a while ago (which I now cant find).

The problem is that I have no auto shut off on one group. I have changed the touch pads across, and the problem remains with the second group. So, I figure the doser black box is the problem...

My question is Whats in the box? I am no engineer, just an enthusiatic tinkerer....is this where the plastic turbine wheels live, FC? If so, I will rip the box apart and fiddle with it....at the moment, the second group has manual control through the touchpad only....ie the last pad (manual on/off) works...

Does anyone have a circuit for the Rancillio doser boxes, or better still, a manual for the S10 DE?

    Cheers,

    Chris

The black box is a circuit board thats all.

Try taking it apart and cleaning using circuit cleaner.

If that doesnt work then you are up for about $250 for a new one.

    Hi Grant,

I think this one is about $300....The machine is workable, and I never use the dose buttons anyway! But it sort of niggles away at me that it doesnt work....you know? And it is only my coffee lab machine...

Ill take the box apart and see what comes of it...but where are the plastic turbine wheels FC speaks of? :o

    Cheers,

    Chris

    Chris:

I think I misunderstood. There are two blackboxes in the machine, one is for the boiler which is the autorefill circuit box which is the one Im talking about and then there is the volumetric dosing box which contains the vains which measure volumetric displacement as the water flows to accurately does the shot.

Take this info with a grain of salt as Ive never seen inside a Rancilio S10, but it seems like youre looking for the flow meter. Its not a black box, but a little hydraulic doohicky with a small paddle wheel inside that rotates as the water is pumped through it. The ones I have seen are all relatively flat rectangles with the water entering and exiting on the same side of rectangular box, after doing a 180 around the paddle wheel. There is also a small LED on some units and there has to be a plug to take the electronic signal back to the "dosing black box" where the little pulses get counted.

I found a drawing of the Rancilio unit on the coffeeparts web page http://coffeeparts.com/ran/ran5.html part 300038 and the little paddle wheel is part 617903/G. The dosing black box is also on the same page, part 620607 and costs a whopping $365. Id go looking at the flow meter and paddlewheel assembly first.

    Good luck,

    Mark.

    Thanks for that all,

    Ill keep playing...

The touch pad runs to the doser black box , with a bunch of terminals on the side....the autofill box is more of a grey box, Grant... :-[

    Sparky,

Thanks for that...I have just had a chance to fiddle with the machine again, and the problem was a broken wire to the right hand flowmeter....You were on the money.. :)

Machine is now working 100 percent...now to pull it completely down for restoration!

    Merry Christmas...
