What did you get for Christmas?

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
Were you one of the lucky ones that got a coffee machine for Christmas? POs your experiences here if you did? Brand, ease of use.

Although I have a warehouse full I received a new model of a new brand - it was pretty cool using "pressurised air" for steaming milk. Pretty good foam.

    What did everyone get?

Very cool gift from my wife, Espresso Coffee The Science of Quality ie the Illy book *:)

She tracked it down on her own without me having nagged about it, most impressed.

NB: It is smaller than I thought it would be...

    Hi all,

Well I managed to upgrade my VV to a Silvia about two months ago but was stuck with the nasty plastic tamper until Christmas morning.

I am now the proud own of a Pullman tamper but I had a friend turn an exquisite handle similar to Gregs design but from Brazilian Tulipwood ;D ;D Absolutley superb. I cannot believe the difference in the extraction quality.

I also managed to nab a new milk jug, thermometer and knock box.

    Very, very content.

    Cheers

Got a Grindenstein Knock Box (from Tobys Estate Coffee) and a selection of beans; Tuscany, Latin American, Organic Espresso, Mocha Kenya, Kenya Massaii AA (from Pine Tea & Coffee http://www.pineteacoffee.com.au) .
Trying each bean over the last few days in my Silvia.

Pine has a good selection of teas. I picked up some Chinese Monkey green tea from them a month or so ago. Trained monkeys pick the tea, its very nice and delicate.

Im still waiting for my xmas pressie. If Genecafe would hurry up and secure a local distributor, I could get mine.

Glad that you managed the Pullman tamper Chris! The real question is when are you going to secure the roaster and get rid of the load grinder!! Like the Psalm quote too.

    My dear Mr. Clonetrooper :)

Well I also managed to secure a popper from my folks! Cranked it up last night and roasted three sample batches of Ethiopian which I am hoping to try later this afternoon. These were roasted at 10, 12 and 15 minutes. It really was great fun and I can easily see why so many people get addicted to home roasting.

As for the loaner....well I am hoping early in the new year to resolve this dilemma ;)

Glad you liked the quote. Heres another, Psalm 9:10.

    Happy Roasting (and reading)

The only coffee related prezzies I got were some Gloria Jeans beans, and some glasses for lattes.

I did get myself some stuff though...

I picked up a DVD called "Coffee Crazy" with Paul Bassett from Myer for $7.99, bargain! Quite entertaining, not so informative though.

Im waiting for Greg Pullman to come back from holis so I can order one of those famous tampers.

Picked up a cleaning kit, a jug thermometer and an LM basket from coffeeparts, which Im going to try it right now...

I got some cups - theyre from freedom, and are the same size/shape as the nuova point cappa cups, except white on the inside, shiny silver on the outside. I felt my setup was lacking a little bling factor.

eh ... its too hot for anything other than affogato ... 43 degrees today in sydney. Its too hot to even turn the machine on, for the extra heat it adds to the kitchen.

    So no latte art!

Yep, what a shocking day to have a shocking hangover ;). Lucky NYE is only once a year. I switched the Silvia on in the morning in the hope of a brew but didnt get a chance until after dinner - worth it though. Resolution No 1 - in the future avoid friends bearing Magnums of Champagne!

    Happy New Year!

    Cheers,

Re: What did you get for Christmas?

Although she never actually said, I think the wife secretly haboured a dislike for the home made knock box. >:( Even though there was nothing wrong with it functionally, I got a new one from Santa. :)The one marketed by Compact designs www.compact-designs.com.au. I must admit it does look better, and the bench doesnt seem as messy.

She also bought a me Cosmorex T shirt and an angled brush for cleaning. What a woman ;)

Even the sister inlaw came good with a subscription to Beanscene. Racked up a few credits there ;D

Well, not strictly coffee equipment but quintessentially italian anyway...

A new Vespa LX 125 in Dragon Rosso! Almost as much chrome as Miss Lucy and ever so handy to pop down to a local cafe when a change of scenery (and a good coffee) is required! *8-)
