Expobar owners - whats your preinfusion time?

    Hi guys,

Im just curious about the preinfusion time with the standard expobar eb-61 group setup. Its found on the brewtus (errr... "barista minore"), eb-61, pulser and control. If you have any of these machines, the next time you pull a decent shot, could you just time how long it takes for the first drops to appear after flipping the lever for me?

    Cheers,

    Luca

~9 to 10secs for the first drops to pour off the spout.
This is for 50ml in 30secs from 18g.

Luca- the pre-infusion time is quite a few seconds.....I often get a delay of 7-9 sec before the 1st drops and then a slow pour. I like to see initial drops easing into a constant stream and then I use my palate to dial in the grind and therefore the espresso....So the punchline of the story is throw the rule book away! ;)

mine is the same around 7-9 secs before it begins to come down the spout. or 5-7 before it starts on the bottom of the basket when I use a naked PF.

as the brewtus is in storage till friday, i will have to go by memory... it def. takes about 6-8 seconds in my set up.
i know that when i was looking, i checked out minore that was plumbed in. when the lever was half way, the built up preassure was released into the group, and so pre-infustion happened here, this reduced the time (i think, didnt time it) that it took when the lever was up and the pump activated....

My Leva is about 7 - 9 seconds usually as well.
Ive been aiming for around that since Hazel mentioned a few weeks ago that she doesnt mind 8 seconds or more.

I got my new Pullman Tamper this morning so will have to see how I go now with it and my double LM basket back.

So I second what 2mcm said.

Its always about 6-7 seconds for mine, using the single basket mainly, but its very similar for the double basket too.

BTW Are you comparing this to any other machines?

We could always start another thread for that, but I was asking because the few that I have tried seemed to have an inordinately long preinfusion time, in comparison with both other commercial HXs and prosumer HXs, and I wanted to work out if that was typical or not. Chris answer above seems to indicate that this is the case ... is that right, Chris?

    Cheers,

I checked this morning and I get 10 seconds on a 27 second pour with a double basket.

    Hi All
I think this preinfusion talk needs a bit of clarification.
On my Bezzera commercial there is an audible hit when the preinfusion is taking place- pressure building up, and you see a change on the pressure dial. This is quite a short process. The time the coffe takes to appear is a lot longer- 7-9 sec.
On my ECM botticelli which is a large single boiler and isnt credited with preinfusion, theres no hiss but there is the same sort of wait associated above with preinfusion- about 7-9 sec.

What am I saying? Well only a part of the time given from hitting the brew switch until coffee appears is entirely due to the preinfusion process. A lot is due to the process of infusion as the hot water being built up in the filter handle does just that- build up in pressure and volume as it forces its way through the compacted coffee.

    p.s.
Im more than happy to be corrected on this if I am wrong.
