Have a Silvia - What Now?

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
Bare with me guys - super novice to the site.
Anyway, Ive had a Silvia for about 2 years and have used it daily without fail. I want to upgrade to something that can brew and steam at the same time, and has the same quality as the Silvia. Full brass and what not. A friend has an Expobar but its an older one; the new ones on the site arent exactly pieces of art in the to look atdepartment.
Does anyone have any suggestions. The silvias about to die and going without a coffee is not an option.
I also need a grinder. Yes ive used a silvia for 2 years without one, but the local coffee seems to work well in it. :)
    Any ideas would be awesome.
Oh yeah and as for a budget, not overly fussed but would dread a suggestion to spend 4k.

    Cheers guys

    Nick

    Hi Nick,

Not sure what you mean about the Silvia dying as theyre a pretty solid machine - I had one for a while before upgrading to the Expobar Office that can brew & steam at the same time as well.

For grinders, I would recommend the Sunbeam EM450 as a bare minimum, and even then I would pay a little more (Ive also had the EM480 previously) to get at least a Rancilio Rocky, and if your budget allows, up to a Macap or Mazzer class grinder.

    Cheers,
    Tim

Same here - a 2 year old Silvia should be going great guns.

The Silvia probably just needs a good clean and a new group seal, and you shouldnt have any trouble selling it to help fund your upgrade. As for your upgrade, 3 to 3.5K will see you into a new HX or twin boiler machine and grinder and youll have plenty of options.

It seems I was wrong about the new Expobars. Minore 3 with the double boiler is really grabbing my attention. User advise seems to be pretty good as well.
Can anyone suggest why it would be better than something similarly priced such as the Bezzera BZ07? The heating system in the Minore on paper looks alot more powerful, and it has the two boilers over heat exchanger. hmmm

As for my Silvia, i probably exaggerated its fate but its probably because I want to upgrade so badly. Does anyone buy them second hand? i was thinking about keeping it as a spare if I would only get $2-300 for it. I cant imagine anyone paying much more than that for it?

From what I read you could easily get double that for it.

Your 2yo Silvia should get you $500-600 depending on condition, clean it up, put in a new group seal ($5) and it should be like new!!

if ur spending around 3k on a new machine definatley upgrade from a sunbeam grinder- go a Mazzar or Macap grinder you need it with a higher end machine too!
Both machines are awesome so many options contact some sponsors<<< near u and try some to get a feel.

    Good luck! ;)
