I spose youve tried local laboratory glass suppliers Andy?
Mal.
Hi all,
Im looking for a piece of glass tube for a coffee machine restoration.
(an old Boema lever, before and after pics to follow sometime soon in another thread) *Due to the age it will be imperial dimensions but maybe a metric replacement would work too. *
Its a glass tube 0.5" x 5.5" (yes, decimal inches look weird typed... but Im a metric baby so they also make more sense)
So... any leads? *Anyone know where to start looking for this?

Selby Scientific if they are still around?
Nice one Mal, I wonder how many I have to freight to get 1 here intact?
**shudder @ couriers & glass**
Still they sell em in 1500mm lenghts and maybe Ill get lucky and they will break it into 5.5" bits?
8-)
Ill give em a call in daylight, ta.
edit: (and Selby Scientific too... ta)
Id reckon with all the medical labs in and around Melbourne mate, that thered have to be at least one supplier close by home...

andy is it for a boiler sight glass??
Have you considered a retrofit, of another brands part in its place?
Otherwise have you considered Acrylic in its place?? (not sure where its going or what its doing)
Yeah, its a boiler sight glass.
I think we are right now (will know in a day or two) as I was contacted ofline by someone who can help.
Thanks all for your tips, I love the ability of bouncing a few ideas off CSrs when you hit this sort of snag.... this place rocks!
I know it may seem obvious, but make sure you check that the product the supplier offers is tempered to withstand the heat / pressure of the boiler. :)Originally Posted by 0B242E334A0 link=1274623803/7#7 date=1274682495
acrylic is a good idea, however, it may discolour faster than glass and im not sure how pedantic you are about authenticity.
+1 !!!!!!!!!! Love it! ;DOriginally Posted by 0B242E334A0 link=1274623803/7#7 date=1274682495
How about *Orphan Espresso over in the USA overkill for a glass tube but they have other stuff that might interest you, like a temperature indicator strip *that sticks to the group, Im planning on getting one of those for the Aurora.
Careful Andy......your head will explode! ;DOriginally Posted by 1C3339245D0 link=1274623803/7#7 date=1274682495
Lookin forward to the Restoration thread 8-)
yeah the reason i was asking if it was for the sight glass is just to suggest u make sure that its safe under 1bar pressure...!! 14psi of glass steam and hot water aint gonna be fun...!
Its nice to know that we can still help you out, the way youve helped so many of us snobs out :)
