    PF Basket Ring?

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
I remember some time ago someone posting a link to an espresso gear shop that stocked rings that would sit on your pf basket so the grinds wouldnt spill out when grinding coffee into your basket. I cant find it despite spending some quality time with google.
    Anyone help?

    Try googling "orphan espresso"

When you get to the site, on the left side is "OE Design Shop"
    Click on that.

Is the product "OE Aluminum Portafilter Dosing Funnel" what you are after?

Thats exactly it. Thanks very much. Do you have one?

I use a ring cut from a yoghurt carton. (I think I read about it from Mal--but I cant be sure.)

I use an empty foil cat food container with the bottom cut out, copied GregWormalds device.
The dosing funnel is a good idea, looks neat and nicely finished with a choice of colour, but @ US$18.50 I can see it costing around Aust $40 landed here, think Ill stick with what Ive got. ;)

I could use plastic from a yoghurt/pudding/cat food bowl. But....
    A. I dont have a cat and my Jack Russell doesnt like cat food
    B. I refuse to buy my Jack Russell that expensive carton food
    C. I have the "need to spend money on espresso paraphernalia" urge and it needs to be sated.

Ive bought stuff I couldnt get here from OE. Lovely people to deal with, postage is cheap and takes about a week. There claim that the tight fitting funnel reduces the void caused by ill fitting improvised containers rings true with me as I have not yet found something that is a neat fit.

Im certainly impressed with the service from Orphan Espresso, just received an email advising of a US$5.59 refund on postal charges, this makes postage from the states US$3, I doubt I could post em from Adelaide to Melbourne for that money. :D

Yes, that sounds like Doug and Barb.
When I was having trouble tracking down a spring they offered to put one on their next overseas order for me, no obligation, theyd keep it if I didnt take it. I told them yes please, Ill wait for it. When it arrived with some other items I couldnt get here, I opened the box and was pleasantly surprised to find it all gift wrapped.

Mine arrived today - great service. Certainly helps keep things tidy. Its taking a bit of experimentation as its harder to judge (at least initially) the amount of grounds in the basket. I might try going down the whole slapshot routine.

Pleased to hear it arrived ok, how does it fit the 58mm basket?
I grind on demand and weigh each shot, so 17 grams in means 17 out. :)

    Re: PF Basket Ring?

Fits really well, when you take it out there is a small ring round the edge to be smoothed over. I realised this morning that any slapshot routine would need an accurate dose and I cant do that with a Mazzer, grinds stuck in doser, chute, etc. I tried just grinding into a mound and banging it level but it takes so much coffee to do that that I end up updosing too much. Back to my old routine of grinding to the top of the pf - banging level and then grinding to the top again.
Anyway, besides all that, Im finding its saving some clearing up time, and it looks cool when used as a tamper rest on the mazzer doser.

    Re: PF Basket Ring?

The package arrived safe and sound this morning, as expected its a small aluminium funnel like device that is very expensive for what it is, but this is what happens with limited production runs.
Fits the 58mm basket of the Bezzera nicely, the PF with the funnel attached fits easily under the doser of the Mazzer Mini and collects every last trace of coffee leaving nothing in the in the stainless tray.
A light tap on the bench settles the grounds, removing the funnel leaves a narrow ring around the edge of the basket, I guess you could tap on the bench again to settle the grounds out to the edge, I didnt, just went straight to tamping, resulting in a very nice shot, no different to what I was experiencing with my old method.
To sum up, a simple piece of gear that does exactly what its supposed to do, makes dosing easy, eliminates messy dosing and looks good.
Obviously aimed at the home user as I reckon it would be too fiddly for use in a cafe environment where a bit of overflow is tolerated for the sake of speed, of course I could be wrong about that.
Would I buy it again? in an instant, $25 well spent, goodbye cat food tin. . ;)

Jon, given that in the Mazzer Mini grounds get stuck in the doser and the chute into the doser, Im interested as to how you measure what goes in and out as Id like to do the same myself.

I weigh the beans on a small electronic scale, dump them into the hopper, grind, use a small stiff bristle artists brush to sweep grounds out of the chute and from around the star, chrome cover etc into the dispensing area then dose, very little residue remains.
Sounds complex but it really is quite easy, a few seconds and job is done.
Just dont put the brush into the chute with the machine running, you will give it a quick and effective short back and sides. ;D
PS scales are available on the bay for about $10
