    Pullman Tamper Help

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
    Hi all,

I was looking online and Im quite confused about the tampers.. So my requirements are as per below:
    • Fit ESP04 (Ikon) non-pressurised basket
    • Water proof (no wooden handles)
    • Can fit most other machines in case I upgrade

Would go out to look but dont have the travel time so any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

:o I suspect Greg might find that fairly challenging unless hes planning on designing a tamper which is adjustable in diameter* :D

I think the trick is to buy different bases rather than a whole new tamper* ;D

He may be able to manage a couple of mm but 51 to 58 is a big ask* :o

Besides if he has any thing new it will be his (and kept quite) until it is released to market* ;)

Hmm let me put it this way -

by most I mean, something close enuf to the Ikon basket but not necessarily perfect as long as it works for some other machines too.. hope that made sense.

i.e. if adjusting the ikon base by a mm will mean it can be used for more machines in case I upgrade, then it doesnt need to be perfect fit. On the other hand, if all the higher class machines needs a smaller tamper base than the ikon, then the ikon fit will be fine.

sorry for the confusion and lack of research :P

Nope- not going to happen as the Ikon basket is much smaller than the most common 58mm. AM is correct. Youd need to purchase a new base.

The Ikon is either 51 or 52mm from memory. Have a read here http://thingscoffee.com.au/product_i...roducts_id=109

If you go down the path of the Pullman Deluxe range dont worry in the slightest about the wooden handles you never get them wet and only need an ocasional wipe if your messy ;) My Pavoni 51mm can be topped and tailed with the 55mm base or handles from my Izzo so no need to panic there either just buy a new base later when you upgrade.

Out of interest my Wenge timber 55mm ones have done over 100kg of coffee and are perfect.

Yep the Ikons are around the 51-52mm mark. Best bet if you wanted one for the Ikon would be to get that made and then if you upgrade to a different machine get just a new base. We can sometimes trade in an old base too, subject to its condition, to reduce the cost of upgrading.

If youre concerned about the wood side of it, were just about to start shipping the Barista (which has anodised aluminium handles as an option) in the smaller sizes so both styles would be available to suit the Ikon.

    Re: Pullman Tamper Help

Greg what would be an approximate time from placing order to dispatch for an anodised tamper?

Hope its ok to ask that here?

    edit: changed delivery to dispatch

    Hi 5G,

Fine to ask here :) As a ballpark figure we say about a week from receipt of payment to dispatch, but it varies greatly depending what you order, how you paid and how many orders there are in front of yours. Payment can vary from cleared immediately (credit card and Paypal) to 1-3 days (direct deposit) to two weeks (cheque including postage time) so that alone is enough to blow the estimate out of the water. Custom engraving adds another week or two.

We say on our website to allow 7-10 days from ordering to receipt of goods but that includes the extra variable of what delivery method you choose (regular or express).

Greg I know I read somewhere that you can pay by CC but when I came to make my order I could not find those options. I just paid by direct debit which is OK because I am in Australia and I know your reputation but you may want to have a look at that on your ordering site and make it more transparent.

I may have totally stuffed it up but I recall I did try to pay by CC and could not find the option. Did not even know you took paypal.

Hi JohnT, I put my order in about 3hrs after the quoted post and paid by Paypal.
The Credit Card Option and PayPal Option were as large as life, couldnt miss it.
Either there was a glitch or you were concentrating on the footy...hehehe
Im sure Greg or Robin will check it out anyway.
    Cheers

Johntaus... we recently changed to a different credit card gateway (which allowed us to cut our credit card fees by more than half) but there was a week or so there before the new one was ready to roll where the old gateway was disabled and Im pretty sure you ordered during that week. We left PayPal enabled which does allow credit card transactions if people want it (though not everyone knows PayPal can take cards without a PayPal account, used not to be the case). All sorted now though, not that youll ever need another tamper Id say! ;)

Thanks Greg - thank goodness Im not totally losing it!

Wont "need" another provided I can stop at just one. But since you keep developing these tampers all the time there is probably more on the horizon.

Just a question Greg - I ordered a synesso twin basket with my Barista tamper which measures 58.65mm. Whats the best way to get matching synesso baskets in other sizes like the triple for a naked portafilter and maybe a single? Is it just trial and error and going thru what stocks they have?

    Re: Pullman Tamper Help

More on the horizon?*What makes you think that... :-X

We have records of all our tamper sizes (based on the serial number on your base) so if you want baskets to fit that then yes we just find the closest we can in all the stock we have. They do vary, and in our current stock the doubles are the smallest of the lot, then triples, then singles but well do the best we can.

You guys were right in the ballpark!
My tamper arrived yesterday, cool 6 day turn-around.
It looks a treat apparently, but they know better than to try it before i get home next week! hehehe.
    Cheers Robin and Greg ;)

Well just got off the plane couple hrs ago. Nice to come home and theres 17.5kg of Green and 2kg of Brown along with a nice new Pullman Tamper all standing by!!
Tamper fits the old double pretty good but still changed out for the new basket and spring. Also fits the bottomless pretty well.
Even put the Carlton Draught down for a sec to savour a long black.... ;)
Tamper was worth every cent! Highly recommended. :)
    Thanks Greg and Robin...

oh yeah and to Andy for all the beans ;)

    Re: Pullman Tamper Help

Hi, am a relative newbie when it comes to the the art of a good home made coffee, but am ready to learn :)

Ive just purchased a la pavoni lever machine and am looking at purchasing a deluxe pullman tamper to go with it.

Am just trying to understand what the general differences are when using a convex or flat base?*Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    cheers

    Welcome c0redumpt :)

This question has been discussed many times before on this forum. Please do a site search (up the top of the page) for flat vs convex or something similar and youll find a number of threads on the topic. Perchance your question isnt answered, feel free to add your question to one of the relevant threads.

Alternatively our website has information on this http://www.coffeetamper.com.au/information/faq.html#flat-convex

With the Pavoni go flat all the way :) Also highly recommended you send both your single and double baskets to Greg or Robin as there was a fair bit of variation in my two. While you will be without for a few days you will get the best fit possible.

Welcome to the Lever Lovers gang too 8-)
