    Re: Pullman Nexus Exposed

I think so and the feedback from the public throughout Cafe Biz was very positive! Its naturally designed to be very comfortable, but different to the Barista, and once again I was reminded how different everyone is; some predictably preferred the Barista but there were some who thought the Nexus was a better fit to their hand and put their money where their hand was! Nothing like having a choice! ;)

Well have these on our website in the coming days. Thanks Tashie for the photo and a pleasure to meet you!

I love the aesthetics of the Barista, but the Nexus does fit my hand better.

Great to meet you Greg! Grow a beard for next time :)

We purchased a Nexus on our way out of the mind blowing Cafe Biz event. Greg told us we were the first purchasers. It will go to Herbiesmissus school and be put to good use in Hospitality classes. Thanks Greg. Fantastic. [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

Well I was going to list them on CS once I figure out which ones I want to keep. So many to choose from! Will post a pic soon, it looks pretty impressive.

At this stage, Im tempted to keep them all - though some look more like bowls than cups.

Nice looking tampers, price is great.

Im sure there are a lot of snobs (like me) who much prefer the look of the Barista over the Deluxe, but couldnt justify the spend.

The Nexus will fill the spot beautifully.

Therell be an order soon, birthday is approaching [smiley=happy.gif]

    Re: Pullman Nexus Exposed

I was selling them at $95 at Cafe Biz, however the collection of stock and assembly was all so last minute I didnt have time to do the sums to work out my actual cost! However Im hoping this is going to be around the mark as Chris has said.

So theyre on thingscoffee at $95 at the moment but at some stage I need to take some official photos so for the website people can see what theyre buying, but for now I think Tashies up there does the trick nicely! ;)

"Pullman Classic" its not cheesy, its not overstated and doesnt overshadow the branding. I currently own 2 Pullman tampers and wouldnt have anything else ;) the quality speaks for itself :)

    Greg,

do you have a full list of what handle options there is for the Nexus yet? or will it be on the site in a few days.

I hope Huon pine is an option :)

I see Black Acetal and Jarrah are already options

Also are these base heavy like the deluxe or are they balanced?

My plan was to keep the Nexus fairly limited in options and expand some of the woods available in the Barista range. Acetal is ideal because its so robust and well suited to commercial use. Jarrah has always been very popular so was an obvious choice. Huon Pine I doubt will be in Nexus as a stock item (although we can do anything as a one-off ;)), if we stick with it its more likely to show up on a Barista.

For now were just going to run with Acetal and Jarrah but well look at adding other options once things have settled in.

The Nexus is base heavy like the Deluxe, they weigh in about 395g which is actually a bit lighter than a Barista but due to the bottom-heavy weight distribution they feel heavier than a Barista.

I really like the name "Nexus" and I like the look of it, but… when? When can I order one? I was about to get a couple of Synesso baskets and a Deluxe tamper when I found this thread about a new tamper that sits between the Deluxe and the Barista. Seeing the picture above Im glad I waited, but for how much longer?

    Cheers
    Steffen.

    Hi Steffen,

    Its available now at http://thingscoffee.com.au/index.php?cPath=40_48.

I can also now say that the Nexus will be replacing the Deluxe, rather than being an addition to the range. With similar features and price point, but superior ergonomics, theres not much point retaining the Delxue in the range. :(

So my Deluxes will become collectors items?

Yep thanks TG, still have to get photos taken, am waiting for the courier to arrive with the left-over stock so I have something to photograph!

The Deluxes will become collectors items unless were convinced to keep manufacturing them. Apart from offering two different shapes to choose from Im not sure theres a compelling argument to do so.

Ordered! There wasnt any way of specifying the size, Im assuming it will fit the 58mm Synesso baskets?

    (Rubs hands with glee)

My older Deluxe has a bigger handle than the newer one.
I know some CSers have lower numbers than mine though.

Surely the beauty of them justifies their continued manufacture?* My Wenge handle is a work of art and destined to become an heirloom, if I ever let my children drink coffee.* *;D

But perhaps more importantly Greg will the Nexus have the same flexibility in PF size as the Deluxe?

E.g. the 45mm base that I have on my Deluxe to fit my PV Lusso basket? :-?

It is special Hide: special due to the time Greg puts into development and his workmanship. Its also cheap at the price.

    Hi Hide,

In due course I would expect so. At this stage were only just starting to trickle out the first few units in stock form through Things Coffee and are still finalising all the other options, and we wont issue reseller pricing until thats all locked in. However we have several resellers in Melbourne and I would expect at least some of those will range the Nexus once it becomes available to them.

    Welcome charlie0110,

The Nexus hasnt gone out to resellers yet; were in the process of getting enough stock built up so we have enough to supply retailers as well as our own customers. Itll be up to each individual store as to what they carry but all the resellers are on our website coffeetamper.com.au/resellers.html, there are a few in Brissy. In the meantime you can obviously get one from us if you need.

Say hi to Myrtle (Nexus) ...

    Mark 1 ...

    - not the greatest bit of burl - too much going on for a handle ...

    Mark 2

    - nice bit of swirly fiddleback but a bloody great dirty black mark in the timber ...

    ... I guess there is going to be a Mark 3 ...* ::)

On the bright side, who knew Danish Oil/Shellawax flavoured Gambella Sundried was such a great blend? ;) :)

    haha they are wicked JavaJ.

Im actually on the hunt to get some Tassie Black Heart Sassafras for my nexus, if I cant find a piece that is suitable I will definitely be trying for a myrtle piece.

Mine will be matched to a VST so I will making a comparison between that and my deluxe with synesso.

The nexus is a great tamper to show off the quality wood handle.

Looking forward to making my order :)

Nice work JJ! The trick with hand-turning these is getting the angles and depth just right where the handle disappears into the base. Nail it and the transition is smooth as silk.

Maybe you should release your own range of aftermarket Nexus handles! ;)

    Sorry, I was trying not to curse you out loud! :-[ ;D The Barista handle connection system would be a whole lot easier to turn for ... at least for amateurs like me ... I think I got pretty close when I trimmed up the blackwood one;
