    Concept Art Tamping Station

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
I am in the process of building up pieces of equipment before the big purchase happens & I just am spreading the coins I spend so it doesnt look so daunting to the lovely of the house (she is a coffee lover to :) ) Anyway, been looking at the Concept Art Tamping Station that bombora have on their site but seeing they are whole sale, not a chance to purchase from them.

This is the kit I am looking at

    http://clean-machine.com.au/Tamping_Station-_Exclusive_Black_-_Concept-Art.html

Anyway, does anyone know of an online maybe site sponsor who sell this product? Google is not my friend at the moment!!

    Cheers

Yes I registered and received a call today at work. I mentioned were I got the details from and what I was after etc... Dropped CS and was told it was only for wholesales. The kind lady suggested another company who actually isnt a CS sponsor but now Im struggling to find or purchase the gear I am after. I would rather spend my dollars in AUD but if I have to go USD, then so be it.

    Hi Jonty,

We ranged it but it was a slow seller. Its of exquisite build and is a wonderful unit. I use one at home.

Id be delighted to arrange one for you if youd like one.

    Re: Concept Art Tamping Station

Received mine today, very solid and well made also fits nicely next to my gear, I put a rubber base on the first shelf and have my preffered tamper sitting there in front which is a bonus. Much better than a rubber mat to tamp on :)

    Thanks Chris!

Not cheap. I got mine on special for I think $70 but regular price i think is closer to $85.

Very hefty though and certainly built to last.

The things I find are its plusses are:

    1. Doesnt flex when tamping
    2. Allows the portafiter to sit level in a neutral position

I got the Cafelat one from DiBartoli and it works great too and takes up less bench space. Its on special at $69.

Thanks guys. I guess the PF will sit level as long as you hold the handle in the right position

Yeah it will. To be honest if price is an issue I would just reccomend a rubber mat to protect the bench and keep the grinds all together for easy cleanning.

For me a tamping station was the answer to trying to tamp a single spout portafilter.

It is also a way of keeping the spout dry/free of grounds and increasing the height of your workspace.

So far Ive been happy using a small hand towel usually folded once. The towelling fibres really catch and trap the excess grinds. Its useful with small spills and cleanup plus its handy way to keep the spare bits and pieces that dont need or like heat (like other halfs choc sprinkler, rinsed jugs etc). The tamper likes the soft base too.

I have a Silvia and the newer style pf handle makes it easy to stay level for tamping though I see the point about single spouts. I also have an naked pf and usually wipe the base before locking the pf in.

Its not so much about the money (thats still a consideration of course) but more about space management. It works well me us in our very cluttered kitchen. Most of the benchspace is near the stovetop but away from power and water. It we redesign with different workspaces one day, that might change things.

    Re: Concept Art Tamping Station

For all my tamping, I rest the PF on the bar of the knock box (its stainless so doesnt flex etc), where the handle meets the basket holder. This was it doesnt matter if you have one spout or naked.

It works quite well for me, you have to learn to hold it flat, but that is quite easy. I have been eyeing the tamping stations for some time, they do look nice and would probably provide an easier (and flat) support, but its the bench space they take up that is currently holding me back.

    Cheers

    Re: Concept Art Tamping Station

Ive been using this for years now, only cost was my time and a bit of work with a saw and router, the timber was a Jarrah off cut.
My PF sits in it rock solid and level.
If a little rustic for your tastes another hour or so with a sander will refine it.
More about it here with more detailed pics. http://coffeesnobs.com.au/YaBB.pl?num=1259976500

    Re: Concept Art Tamping Station

Hi all. Here are a few prototypes Ive been working on lately. The first tamping stand is specific to my PF. The second is generic to cater for all lug and spout configurations and the third is currently in a shop for trials. The beauty of all oif them ( apart from the timber) is they ensure the PF is level, you dont need to even hold the PF handle if you dont want to and you can leave the PF sitting there if something more important crops up. The spouts are not bearing any weight which I think is important.

I suspect the wooden blocks are not blingy enough derrilex, when I originally made mine and posted pics etc, only a few were able to see any merit in the concept. ;)

Tru dat. Famous saying amongst 4x4 enthusiasts directed at those that put chrome wheels and bling etc.. on a 4x4

" chrome wont get ya home "

    Timber rules.

i think the tamps stations from derrilex are amazing. i would choose wood over any metal (except perhaps gold? :P ) any day.

Wish i hd the talent to do something like that.

derrilex's resin tamper stands are the best, oh and his coasters, oh and his bangles oh and yep the new portafilter handles (I love my Purple Heart handles made by someone else that used to be here, though too much to change over)
