    double wall/ dual wall baket

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
Ok before you all take out your deringers and shoot me; at least let me put on a ballistic vest by saying I know they are not ideal.

I have a la scala butterfly e61 hx matched with a mazzer sj but the shots werent as good as I was used to so I went to a service agent asking for some advice. (I already thought it could be stale beans because they were getting close to two months old.

Anyway he asked about the crema (froth he called it) and I began to doubt his advice but he gave me a dual walled basket and said try this and sent me on my way. Mind you I payed nothing for it so when I get home Ill try it out and see how it goes.

He had some beans he also said were great, roast date was thursday so lets get the espresso flowing.

My hopes arent hi so it wont be easy to disappoint. I was just looking for some general feedback and open opinions.

FWIW I suspect chris will have my machine on his bench if things dont get better

Two problems there as I see it...
#1- The beans. Chuck em out
#2- The service agent should have told you to refer to #1. In giving you a dual wall basket, youll get fake crema on a dud shot- dependent on how the OPV is calibrated. Lucky he doesnt work for me!

Re: double wall/ dual wall baket

some better late than never follow up. took some of chriss advice, chucked out the beans And placed dual basket in draw never to see light of day.

After a few months my machine started acting up, pours were to fast, crema was shocking, on initial flush my machine would spit fire (actually steam but anyway)

off to chris at talk coffee it went. I thought it was in need of a top to toe service. Descale, service clean and a scace but chris quickly informed me no descale was necessary ($$$ dollars )

After chris had finished with it, restrictors installed, scaced all tuned and beautifully cleaned I picked it up. All on the same day I might add.

So the details initial group head temp 108c, after chris had finished 96 to 98c
Pressure re set to 9 bar, was close to.13.
    flow rate was also reduced.

All in all fast, reliable honest and fairly priced work and the result is very noticeable in the cup.

I havent been asked to write this, havent been paid not did I receive a discount. The work was completed almost a month ago and every morning I notice the difference. I wanted to wait a month to make sure it really was an improvement.

I would recommend if youre not sure about something to do with your machine or something seems to be hinky ring chris at talk coffee. his knowledge, enthusiasm and honest interest into all things coffee means you are in good hands

+1 for Chris at Talk Coffee and the service he provides.

2.5 years since I purchased my gear from him. All checked and calibrated prior to desptch and has performed faultlessly. He answers his own phone and will provide friendly advice everytime. Havent dealt with many of the other CS sponsors but those I have are similar.
