electricity costs for Bezzera Domus Galatea?

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
Been looking around the boards and cant find what Im after hence the post....
Have a Bezzera Domus Galatea and love it to pieces but now looking hard at cutting energy costs at home.
The machine is typically on for 6-8 hours per day and makes between 4 and 8 cups each day.
My knowledge of electricity is that it comes from that white thing on the wall.... so I am sure there is someone a bit more tech savvy that would know the answer.
Our power bill says we are paying 26.228/kWh.
Many thanks in advance for any advice!

The main power drain is when the machine is turned on from cold
Its similar to a 2 liter hot water jug

Then it cycles for a few seconds as required to keep it to the set temp

Cycling for 8 hours will probabably cost less than the initial cost of the first machine activation of he day

I have not seen inside the cover, so to speak, of one of these, but assuming the boiler is not insulated, you can gain some savings by the relatively simple process of insulating the boiler. It wont make any difference to the initial power usage on startup from cold, but once it is up to temp/pressure, it will increase the time between power on cycles while it is sitting and not being used, so overall you use less power. There is some good info already posted around the site, even a special thread devoted just to boiler insulation and noise damping. I have used the relatively economical Insulbrite material on my Silvia and my PV Lusso and it does make a difference.

Re: electricity costs for Bezzera Domus Galatea?

for $15 you can buy a plug in power/cost meter from Aldi that will tewll you exactly how much it costs to run, and how much you save from any changes or mods.

However , that $15 will keep your machine powered on for some time...
    Estimates:
assume 1.5kW max power draw ?
guess 10 mins to initially heat the boiler contents
assume 10% duty cycle to keep machine switched on.

    So 1.5kW @ $0.263 = $0.394 per hour
    Warm up for 10 mins = $0.066
    8 hrs at 10% x $0.394 = $0.316
Total cost per day* *= $0.382 .. ..or $2.70 per week .. (ESTIMATED)

so, if insulation can reduce the heat loss to half, then you could save about $0.16 per day, ( half your usage)* but you could save much more by only switching it on* when its actually needed,..
..but i know that is not easy, depending on your usage "profile"

    Behmor Brazen - $249 - Free Freight
So it costs two thirds of a commercial flat white per week.
I had the same power cost concern with my Silvia. So I fitted a PID . I could see clearly that the main cost is the warm up, after that it was barely "sipping" the current. I notice the same "sipping" on the pressure guage of the Giotto once it has got to its operating temperature.
