    Changing group/portafilter gasket

When changing a group gasket, which way around should the new one fit?

Most instructions I've found don't mention it, though one video I found says the rougher side goes towards the portafilter (Changing a Group Gasket on a Rancilio Espresso Machine - YouTube)

It seems the rough side would make a better seal (also, on the replacement I just received, the shiny side has a logo which presumably would affect the seal).

Is rough side down the go? Does it matter?

At least in our machines, the logo is up. I'm sure that would be the same for all machines for the reason you gave
