E61 Group Head Thermometer
Has anyone seen an E61 group head thermometer for sale in Australia?
There is one available in the U.S. that screws into the font of an E61 head. I have attached a pic.

I haven't seen it in Australia. Why not just get it posted from the US? You know where to get it right?
I looked into these too...shipping was around $29 from memory.
Still a little unsure how it'd be used in real life, so gave it a miss. But if there is a group buy, I'd be interested.
I was tempted too... I like gadgets. However, there will be some difference in temperature between the thermometer and at the puck and in the end I felt that if I was happy with the results in the cup (which I am) then there is no need to know the temperature.
They look horrible on e61.

It would most likely confirm that your technique (flush) is fine and you have a consistent temp anyway.

I like the idea of installing that for a while so I can monitor the temp and get a better understanding of the way that flushing effects things. eg, no flush, short flush, recovery time.
$150 or so delivered is too much for this I agree....
Any ideas on a cheaper way to measure water temp??? I have tried sticking a thermocouple into the stream but the response time is just too sloooooow.....
Hey Paul, I know a cheaper way, but not easier ;-)
If your in a DIY mood, and have the skill, or access to someone that does, you could hack apart a digital thermometer, drill a hole through a stainless bolt, insert the cut-down probe through the screw and seal it up (a plumber mate would score a 6 pack at this point), then screw it into the allen key hole and your away.
A thermocouple would be more accurate though.
Otherwise, if its just for temporary use, a childrens infrared thermometer on loan, taking a peek at the stream?

Or you could by a cheap pid controller that takes RTDs, and buy a threaded RTD and screw that in instead....

The group acts as a radiator. If you feed it less hot water (limited flow) the puck will lose heat faster as more of the water's heat energy is drawn off into the brass casting.
Thanks all. I think I will try my own mod for a bit of fun. If I do I will let you all know how it goes.
So the end result being that the brew water temperature as it arrives at the puck is closer to the group temp wih a slower pour?
