Nice match with a VST 22g basket .....
This new Cafelat PF is awesome!! :
Portafilter - Cafelat
It is available directly from the US. Does anyone know where to buy this in Australia?
What do you all think of this one? Are there any better PFs than this?
Nice match with a VST 22g basket .....
It will be available in Australia soon...
Quick question, does this PF only fit certain machines? I assume it wont work on the Breville DB BES900?
They look to be really well made. And what a great idea.
My only concern might be having a hard metal (stainless) repeatedly lock into a softer one (brass...like in most machines) could wear the softer one much quicker than brass to brass lock-in...but would probably take years for the difference in wear to manifest.
Cool idea, but I'd still rather a naked and a double (partly because it gives me something to keep my blank in, which I use almost as often as I pull shots).
OK, I have confirmation from an owner that heat up time is comparable with brass PFs and that these are well built, solid and heavy.
Heat? As good as standard chrome plated brass (and chromium won't chip off exposing the raw brass and heavy metals)
Clean? Easy! Far less build-up and a quick wipe and it's spotless.
This is food-grade stainless group handle, chrome is good for motorbike parts, stainless 304 is good for food.
I also have the original LM stainless handle ($300 RRP!) and the Cafelat portafilter is better to dose and tamp as it has a square and level base.
We have a very limited number of E61 and LM versions that were expressed into the country and they are available in BeanBay now:
CoffeeSnobs - BeanBay - Cafelat Coffee Accessories - Cafelat Portafilter
...and I hear that site sponsors will be landing stock late next month, well in time for Christmas so you will have plenty of places to try them out.
I can confirm the E61 one works a treat in the ECA Giotto and that the LM one works in the GS3, GB5 and the Slayer.
Cafelat will be adding a whole lot of different lug profiles to suit most espresso machines and with any luck they all land before Christmas.
Looks very nice from the one that you showed me Andy.
I'll be keen to get one to fit my La Cimbali Junior.
Hope he's got one in the works for release soon.
All right. You talked me into it.
Turns out it's not that hard to talk me into coffee related purchases!
PF ordered. Thanks Andy!
Next thing is a good triple basket. VST triple vs precision triple..... or other. Any thoughts on the best one???
I have been using this PF for 5 months now and I am absolutley impressed.
The biggest ups for me are:
1. Fits a huge basket (mine is bigger than the VST and Precision triple baskets.
2. With the spouts on it sits dead flat for tamping. This has improved the consistency of my tamp.
The option to change this into a naked PF is just a bonus.
Thanks again to Andy.
Personally, I greatly prefer my VST double to my precision double, but it took me a while before I had that "a-ha!" moment when it came to distributing; they are (I find) very sensitive and you may have to do things a bit differently to get consistent great extractions.
I am using a big no name basket that came with my bottomless PF. Holds 23 grams with ease. It's a keeper
I want one of these as I've always wanted to go naked. Has anyone anyone opinions on bakelite vs rubber handle. My inclination is to go for rubber (ooe err missus). If I'm mostly making one coffee at a time I assume the mini double spout would make more sense when going fully clothed?
I got the bakelite handle with my Cafelat, and I have a rubber goma handle on another PF. I personally prefer the feel of the rubber handle.
I got the mini double spouts and find them perfect for my needs. They actually give me a bit more clearance than I previously had which has been useful for the ACF tulip cups I use.
Taking the spouts off and putting them back on is very simple, but a cloth is sometimes required to protect from burny-ow-ows if the handle had been in warmup position for a bit.
I have to tell you I am still loving this PF. Great for a double spout with the "convertible" feature just a great bonus
Does anyone know which version I would need for a Bezzera BZ99DE ??
Andy will know for sure.
Hi, available for a Breville BES920? Also, does the handle unscrew and can a wooden handle with a M12 bolt replace the standard Bakelite or rubber handle?
Yes the handle easily unscrews. One off future projects to make timber PF handle and brew lever, water and steam knobs.
It seems that there isn't a Cafelat portafilter for the Breville BES920. I have a great wooden handle with a M12 thread, but no suitable portafilter!
Time to get a new machine then .
The cafelat PF is amazing. For the 22g VST and I pack in 25g
The programability is great. I find an extended pre infusion is very effective with most beans. Also, I've set the shot clock to volumetric, so get a consistent 60ml with
the double basket. I adjust the grind to get the pressure at 8 to 9 bars.
The result: consistently great coffee ☕
about to pull the trigger on a cafelat pf then realise the handle is bolted on, was hoping to get wooden handles on one of these
edit: noticed CS was the only aus distributor for the cafelat pf, so perhaps asking on this thread would be the best way to get an answer. When will the bakelite handle with mini double spouts be back in stock? thanks!

...not really, using the "Contact Us" on the bottom of every page would be the fastest way to get an answer. You got lucky and someone else told me about this post!so perhaps asking on this thread would be the best way to get an answer.
The other good news for you is that the rubber and the bakelite handles on the stainless Cafelat Group Handles does unscrew so yes, you could adapt your own handles if you wanted.
ah please pardon my ignorance then Andy, will the mini dbl spout with Bakelite handles be in stock anytime soon though?
methinks it could be as simple as swapping the spouts around from one packaging to the other, but i'm guessing it's not that simple :P.
Then Andy will be left with an opened box with the picture not matching whats inside, which complicates things!
I have the wide double, and honestly its naked most of the time, the only times I put the base plate on is for splitting a shot (which I want wide spouts for). You might find when stock is replenished the price will go up by 20% caus of the exchange rate.
I placed an order yesterday for a cafelat portafilter and after seeing your earlier post, I’ve enquired about getting a custom wooden handle made at Pullman tampers. He’s requesting the thread size, would you be able to furnish me with that information?
Would have PM’ed but realised that function is disabled for you.
