Talking Now, THIS is a Tamper...

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
I got a wonderful surprise this Christmas Day...

    First, a little background.

Some of the longer term CSers may now that I have suffered a number of small strokes over the years and some of the side affects of these have been quite debilitating. One of the unexplained outcomes, is that I am losing more and more strength plus dexterity of my hands. The end result to this time has been an ever increasing difficulty of being able to properly tamp coffee.

Subsequently, I have been giving serious consideration to selling my beloved DJE and adopting alternative methods to produce the wonderful brew. Anyhow, it would seem that my sons found out about my dilemma and the unenviable prospect of having to divest myself of the DJE. My terrific wife Di, and my two wonderful sons Ken and Ian all pitched in to surprise me on Christmas Day with the Tamper to beat all Tampers; a "Macap CPS (Constant Pressure System) Automatic tamper", pictured below.

Needless to say, I was absolutely gob-smacked and completely lost for words; I know these beauties are not cheap and I would never have considered buying one for myself. So thank you heaps, my wonderful family....

How does it go? In a word - Wonderful. I never realised just how much my ability to tamp effectively and consistently had deteriorated. After dialling in, every single shot was an absolute God Shot, one after the other. I still can't wipe the smile off my face even now more than 24Hrs later. It just makes it so easy for me now, to pull wonderful shots so consistently, something that I haven't been able to enjoy doing for a long time.

So - Thank you, thank you thank you... I love you guys.

    Mal/Dad.

Crikey Mal, your family certainly look after you, have not seen one of these tampers before, looks like it will meet your requirements perfectly, I'm impressed.

What an excellent and thoughtful gift. Congratulations on such a family.

And an awesome looking setup there - do you offer tours to dazzle the natives?

Absolutely mate... One very chuffed puppy here.

Don't know so much about the tours, but coffee requests are quite frequent...

    Hi Dimal (Dad),

Mum, Myself, Ian, Coty and Simone are completely stoked that you are enjoying your Lever Tamper. Soon as we understood why you were considering to sell your machine... well we had to intervene. We and a lot of CS'bers know how much coffee means to you so it was a really easy choice hahaha!!

Also particularly clever that we snuck in the lever tamper without you knowing Certainly made it an awesome and heartfelt surprise.

Enjoy the sensual taste of amber bliss for many years to come.

    Ken

You have no idea just how gob-smacked I was when I turned around and saw that beastie sitting on the bench. I still can't wipe the smile off my face.

Of course, I had to test it out again today, just to make sure - And, as you so eloquently phrased it, heavenly amber bliss. I've never experienced so many great coffee shots for an awful long time and rest assured, my DJE will be put to much use for a very long time indeed...

    Thank you again everyone...
    Luyas all heaps,
    Dad/Mal.

    Congrats Mal!

You may well trigger the next epidemic of CS upgraditis with that

It's terrific that it will allow you many, many more great shots.

    Enjoy mate...

    Me so jealous.

    What a brilliant Christmas gift.

I wonder if I could get a Pullman base made for one of those...

    Thanks guys...

Very lucky and spoiled chappy indeed.

The thread on the Macap is about twice the diameter of the one in a GP tamper base, so it could be easily drilled and tapped out to suit. I've been informed though, that this would be a sacrilegious thing to do to a genuine GP Tamper...
