Any interest in quietening your vibe pump?

A few years ago some guys on HB had quite good success in popping a part from a Quick Mill QM67 inline with their vibe pump. Seems to work with at least Ulka EX4's, Ulka EX5's and Fluid-o-tech pumps, as success was found with a Gaggia Classic, a double Dobomar and a Silvano.

    Before/after video:

I couldn't find the part in Australia - newcoffeeitalia don't carry it. Maybe someone else does here?

If not, Chris' Coffee has it here. Postage is USD37 which I don't mind paying, but if anyone else is interested, PM me and we can split the postage. Even for 20 of them the shopping cart postage hasn't changed. Not sure if any duty kicks in for certain quantities of imported goods, anyone know? I'm in Lane Cove or Hardy's Bay in NSW for pickup, or can post them out.

Interesting device. I have also experienced some vibe pumps being significantly noisier than others (of the same model).

I'm pretty sure the threshold for imports is $1000 AUD including postage, there was talk of this decreasing, I don't think it's changed though.

    Cheers

I'm guessing they function much like a domestic water hammer arrestor (only smaller, cheaper and with more plastic components) - although it looks like these use a movable diaphragm to absorb the energy, rather than a piston compressing an air chamber?

I think it's July 2017 the GST threshold is removed. Just have in my mind something about commercial quantities of goods attracting some sort of duty, but that could be pre-GST times.

The noisier pumps - is that when mounted in the same machine, or different ones? I'm planning on also renewing my pump mounts and trying to eliminate obvious sources of vibration. Not sure I'm go as far as Dynamat though.

From what I've read it is the movable diaphragm type - from the picture it seems the diaphragm (being in the direction of hammering) will absorb some of it, with a smoother result coming out the side port.

I have ran pumps in the open in isolation and some are markedly louder than others.

Sometimes some minor tweaking of mounts can reduce the noise. Its often the mounts and connected tubes that add to the symphony.

    Cheers
