What tamper to buy for BES920

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
    Hi guys,

    I've got the BES920 DB / BCG820 combo,

Am looking at buying a new tamper to fit both my stock double basket from breville as well as my ridgless VST 18g basket,

I don't want to spend to much so have found a few different ones and would love your opinion on which one to buy?

And what size do you guys recommend 58.3 or 58.4 ?

    Thanks

I've got the Barista Hustle one and quite like it. As with some of the others you've linked, they're designed to fit VST baskets. Also comes with a free zip case these days

Thanks. I will be upgrading Breville's tamper myself at some point.

    Buy nice or buy twice.

Do it proper the first time and get a Pullman tamper. They are a bit pricier but you get what you pay for.

Prydey is on the money....I'm in Adelaide so took a trip across town with my BES920 Breville tamper & basket to get a Pullman tamper to match.
I can't remember the exact measurements but their was an extra .2mm of width in the Breville basket compared to the matched Pullman tamper&basket.
The Breville tamper is somewhere between .4mm to .5mm undersize.
So I bought the matching Pullman tamper&basket and the difference in use and taste is astonishing for my milky morning coffee.
Previously I was overfilling the Breville basket and tamping very very hard to prevent channeling and get some sort of consistency.
I now have been able to get good consistent shots by filling the Pullman basket to the level of the Razer tool....pours at 8bar for 30-35secs before blonding starts.
Their tampers and baskets are all locally produced, I ended up with a 17-19g basket with a Nexus tamper base and scratch & dent handle(I can't find the imperfection).
Now looking to upgrade my BCG800 grinder.

I've got a Pesado 58.5mm. Works really great, no gaps and the shots pulled seemed more flavorful and more consistent.

Pullman Coffee Tampers are in Edwardstown...well worth the visit. It is only a 2 person company and yet they reckon they are no 2 in the world all locally made including the baskets.
