IMS Basket variations and models
I wonder if anyone can answer this... interesting to me but a bit technical.
Can I swap between IMS basket sizes in the same way you can with VST baskets with minimal grinder adjustment?
Currently I have an IMS Basket 22g - https://www.coffeeparts.com.au/ims-f...70-2t-c-h285-e. Its too big for me, I'd like a smaller basket for my doubles
What i notice online is we can get 20g & 18g baskets here, but the model number & hole pattern is different.
20g - https://www.coffeeparts.com.au/ims-f...-b70-2t-h265-m
18g - https://www.coffeeparts.com.au/ims-f...-b70-2t-h245-m
notice the last letter on the model numbers swaps from E on the big basket to M on the two smaller ones.
This relates to the hole pattern and size (page 8 on the document or 10 on the PDF) - http://www.imsfiltri.com/wp-content/...-Catalogue.pdf
the have a whole range of baskets that match the 22g (28.5) but aussie retailers don't seem to carry them.
In short no you can't

Yep pretty much. They're the only one that comes close to being able to do that.
Jeez didn’t I have find today dialling in an IMS basket, then realising that, then getting VST baskets, then dialing in that with a change of bean.
OMFG. got it in the end though, just as I ran out of beans.
doing 18.5g in an 18g VST with 45g shot. Have to go real fine and tamp harder than normal.
The smaller baskets are slightly trickier, it seems. It definitely requires a finer grind on my IMS but then I just use my standard Wega basket these days.
You can measure it volumetrically too, it works well for me and it tamps down to the line in the basket. I just fill to the top and smooth out with my finger. Weighing takes more time but both methods work well. I get consistent shots and no gushers.
