    Guys,

Currently usinga SYNESSO DOUBLE BASKET and using a 53.8mm tamper base.. thinking of buying a SYNESSO SINGLE basket - will the 53.8mm tamper base be too big for this?

    Cheers 8-)

    Gday scp,

Um, 53.8mm is way too small for either a single or a double Synesso basket! Thats getting down towards the size of some of the Saeco Via Venezia! Perhaps you mean 58.3mm? If so itll fit, but its not the normal size we use for a fitted tamper into the Synesso baskets so itll be a bit on the loose side.

    Thanks Greg, 58.3mm!!! - * :)

Im using a 58.3mm base tamper at present.

I used the tamper on the weekend on factory stock single basket from an ISOMAC Tea, and it jams to the sides of the basket once tampered down, however perfect w/ the double sized basket.

I think the ridge is causing the problem, as the wall of the basket taper inwards on the single.

Would the SYNESSO single basket purchase fix the problem?

Are there are differences in basket width b/w the single and double SYNESSO?

    Thanks Greg *:-X

The Synesso single should be a better fit. Most baskets are made to fit a 58.0mm tamper so the baskets tend to be a bit bigger; depending on the basket well make it to a closer fit than 0.5-1.5mm clearance which most tend to end up with. The Synesso singles are generally quite close in size to the doubles; if the existing tamper came from us we can check what size base we supplied you with to make sure the single basket will fit properly. I just checked my Synesso single and double and the same size tamper was an excellent fit in both.

    Hi scp1906

Firstly is sounds like you might be trying to tamp too deeply in your existing basket. You normally dont need to tamp to a depth below the ridge - as most ridged baskets - especially singles - will taper below that point.

As long as the puck after tamping just clears the showerscreen - that is deep enough (and dont do a partial tamp - part the way into dosing the basket - as that will produce layers and lead to horizontal channelling)...

The Synesso baskets are almost 59mm in size..... and whilst they will fit most commercial sized PFs.... your tamper will be less than "fitted" in these basket..... you would need a new larger base if you want your tamper to be fitted. The Synesso single is also ridged... but with only a slight taper.

    Robin.
