    My new Rancilio Silvia

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
Hello to you all from a newbie at the site and to good home made coffee in general,

First of all, thanks to everyone for all your wise advise and comments regarding coffee machines, grinders etc. Without it, I probably would have ended up with a fairly average machine. Oh, and thanks to the guys at the CoffeeSnobs stand at the Celebrate the Bean coffee festival in Melbourne, you guys were doing a great job.

So anyway, I made the big decision, and upped my original budget of $550 and forked out on a Rancilio Silvia. My first idea was to buy the Gaggia Baby Dose along with a grinder, but after reading many-a comment decided to go with the Silvia. Unfortunately this means no grinder for a while, but I think in hindsight, it was a good decision. I am obviously still getting used to it, trying to make that decent espresso, but at this stage no luck. I am putting it down to the wrong grind and the coffee not being that fresh. On the other hand, the pressure you get out of the steam wand is fantastic, and the milk comes out creamy and velvety. Not sure which grinder I will get yet (I am thinking the Rancilio Rocky Doserless). Any ideas?

Well this has turned into a long hello so I shall leave it there. Better get back to practising on the new machine.

Oh and if anyone knows where I could get training on how to use my Silvia in Melbourne that would be awesome.

    Cheers all.

    Hi Izzy and welcome ;)

Not da Sylvia, da Silvia. If you dont address her by her correct name, shell be cantankerous 100% of the time! *;D

    I have edited your post....

I can provide training on your machine for you: http://www.talkcoffee.com.au/training-consulting -but you will have to wait until you have a suitable grinder because as you have already found, you will get lots of sink shots in the meantime...

    Enjoy your journey!

Thanks for that 2muchcoffeeman. I should really review what I write before posting. My partner and I will definitely look into the training once we get the grinder. (Hopefully soon) :)

    Cheers
