I went naked about 8 months ago and noticed improved taste instantly. The coffee does not come into contact with the spouts or bottom of the portafilter which can hold trapped rancid coffee oils and metallic taints from metals such as brass.
Naked also has the added advantage of less cleaning as the baskets are much easier to remove oils from than the spouts.

Yep, I also believe that the longer, more tortuous path into the cup allows the shot to cool down somewhat as well, which doesnt help matters either.....

Yep naked all the way. Just went back to a single spout for a couple of days and was getting a couple of watery drops coming out at start of pour. Also temp seemed harder to keep stable. The thought of the taste changing just confirmed going back to naked was good call. IMHO

They show all of the little faults that you really should fix !
All of my roasts have "spurters" often , but not with one of our sponsors fine drops ... too much chaff left in my roasts, and my crummy tamping.
And the look of an underpacked basket blonding quickly - its just a really instructive device .

Try getting more airflow through your roasts pip! ;)
