    Drkaldi -
    That would be something between you and your supplier. *Youll find that our sponsors and other reputable dealers are doing more than just trying to unload product for the cheapest possible price. *They offer advice, training and expertise and service and are not really motivated by selling in quantity at small margins on items like the ECM Giotto. *You would be advised to talk to a sponsor (or similar) and see if you can pay close to retail but get a few "freebies" with your purchase. *Perhaps a replacement tamper and a knock box or something. *But really, your greatest "freebie" will be the expertise and sound advice they will offer you, and a welcoming smile when they see you in the future when you need to upgrade and introduce a like-minded friend. *We all like to save a few bucks where we can, but these are not clothes dryers from Harvey Norman youre talking about. *A good dealer will spend as much time as is needed to guide your purchase - and will almost certainly come to the party to sweeten the deal to some extent, but build the relationship first, is my advice

    The problem with CSers, especially the more experienced ones is that we know TOO MUCH!

    We know how to make espressos fairly well, we understand the technology in the machines and can probably even carry out most repairs ourselves to machines.

    We also use the internet a lot and know where the best prices are to be had for equipment.

    This makes us potentially very bad customers!

    Mind you if you do want someone to lean on for advice and to have a chat to about your machine, it does pay to buy a reputable brand and from the bona fide importer!

    The choice is yours!

    Dr Kaldi;

    It is not about price.... is about who can give you the best service and advice, who can help you to understand your machine, who can demostrate and help you to start getting the right coffee extraction, the right milk. Therest is up to you

    Renzo et al are right. There is more to buying a quality machine than the cheapest price. Having sold a number of espresso machines including the Giotto, I was always bombarded with the famous words "Can you match xyzs price". I used to say sure but I will also give you the same level of service that they offer. I gladly lost many a sale.
    You might be able to pick up a a number of machines well under the RRP, but, beware, before buying a BOX with a machine in it, make sure of the bona fides of the reseller and also the level of service that they offer.

    I can only agree with the above replies. When it comes to high-end espresso machines, vendor expertise ,knowledge & attitude is as important, if not more so, than price. Having gone through the exercise of research, discussion & purchase very recently, I would strongly advocate finding a knowledgeable dealer who is prepared to take you through aspects of operation & maintenance for the machines you are interested in before you buy. Your decision will then be informed, rather than based on advertising, gut feeling or the lowest bottom line. It will also help you develop realistic expectations about how a particular machine will perform for your specific requirements. I was fortunate in having such a dealer close to where I live who spent what in normal business sense would be considered an outrageous amount of time in patiently going over every detail of the prospective brands & models in which I was interested. Why? He is passionate about what he does & enjoys imparting his knowledge to others. He wasnt trying to ram anything down my throat, in fact, I found what he said to be consistent with my own research. In the end, I bought what I believe is the right machine for my requirements PLUS a fair swag of "sweeteners" (accessories) for what I believe was a fair price. Not necessarily the absolute lowest, but fair. What it means is that because I didnt knock the hell out of his margin by unreasonable bargaining, I can go back at any time should I need advice, assistance or service & be confident it will be forthcoming. This is not of little value.

    Without wishing to labour the point, in this business, price isnt everything.

    Cheers
    Tony
