WTB: Cheap boiler Machine for Work (SYD)

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
Our Cafe Roma which makes about 15+ coffees a day is dying and Im looking for a cheap machine with a boiler. Budget of $100-$150 (we have alot of people willing to use the machine but unwilling to pay for a new one >:( much of this is out of my pocket) doesnt have to be pretty just has to work ;)

Dont pay any more than your share.

Tell them now they can all chip in or go without soon.

Point out how much it will cost them to buy takeaway.

    15 a day times 5 days a week @ $3 each = $225

So if everyone chips in for one weeks worth of takeaways you have your budget.

If they dont fork out buy yourself an Aeropress from cuppacoffee (sponsor) and you can keep drinking nice coffeee while they contemplate their folly.

    hahaha yea all very true!

But there are 5 of us willing to buy the machine but we know there are another 5 who will use the machine whether we like it or not who also tend to give the machine a bit of abuse which is why were not willing to spend big $$$$ for a machine.. Maybe well just buy one for ourselves and give them the broken down cafe roma ;D

    Easy Tim,

Just buy something decent and make the tight ones pay $2.50/cup...

Youll get a return in no time ;)

    ;D ;D ;D

    If I could I would! ;)

Might go around today and see if I can extract more money from people.

Offer still stands for anyone willing to sell an old machine. Might just buy a new Ikon seems to get good reviews for entry level.

At my previous workplace, one team invested in a Sunbeam espresso machine. They left the machine in the kitchen but kept the portafilter amongst themselves so that others couldnt use the machine.

And one for the beans as well, that was the problem I used to be in a larger workplace >:( .

Just another thought and much as it is not snob friendly, look at a coin in the slot fully auto for a while and see how much use it gets or if it will work. *One of the sponsors has some on their site http://coffeemachine.com.au/treviso-...ac30b31558fc91 Not sure what sort of leases or terms they offer but it couldnt hurt to ask.

Until some clueless person walks up and puts the coffee in the portafilta with no basket.

Then again, you can guarantee they wont bother using your machine again. *;)

Re: WTB: Cheap boiler Machine for Work (SYD)

They lost another basket here at work recently and just the other day while my back was turned, drinking my coffee and reading the paper, someone grabbed my beans off the bench and poured them into the grinder. *:o

I caught them and offered to make them one.
Lucky I did because theyd poured in enough to make 10 coffees.

Anyway, since the latest basket loss and also finding my jug unwashed in the sink (it usually lives in a nearby cupbard and there is another on the bench next to the machine) Ive taken to keeping all my paraphenalia on my desk and also take my own basket with me.

Theyre lucky Im still leaving the grinder on the bench (I used to carry it back and forward).

So I agree, get a new machine and a basket each for the 5 of you pitching in the cash.

Re: WTB: Cheap boiler Machine for Work (SYD)

I still carry mine to and from my desk to the kitchen when I want a coffee. I had someone (ok, a few people) ask me why dont I just leave the machine for everyone to use... Anyway, the office has decided to "hire" a fully auto pod machine with a manual steamer as an option. Many have started to use the manual steamer rather than the auto one and I had this one guy finish murdering the milk (you could hear it from the screeching sound) and I happened to be there and the wand was covered in milk and I asked him to give the wand a wipe and his reply was "I already did it, what? are you my mother now?"
Now, THAT IS WHY I DONT LEAVE MY MACHINE IN THE KITCHEN FOR OTHERS TO USE.

To answer the original question, I would have suggested the machine I use at work, my trusty old Carezza as a good option for a cheap boiler machine, but Ive had troubles getting a few coffees out in good time but if there is no rush in getting the coffees out, a used gaggia Carezza would be a good option for what youre looking for.

I found the wand covered in milk again when I arrived this morning.

Thankfully its happening less often these days.

NTE do you work for a telco? Ive seen a few photos you have posted and your office space looks extremely similar to mine!

I agree that there are alot of people who could do with a lesson in how to clean a machine after use.. Ive come to make a coffee numerous times and found the portafilter still in the machine.. Maybe they think there is still another cups worth of light brown water and they are doing me a favour!

Ive been looking for a s/h Gaggia on Evilbay.. still looking.

Sad to think this is what it comes to.

You would think that people would appreciate the privilege of having access to any kind of [coffee] hardware at work and act according.

Oh well, Im sure they will grow up before they retire.

Yes I work in telco. It must be a standard floor layout and colour scheme for telco... You dont happen to work in Macquarie Park, do you? ;)

I think people assume access to good coffee is their birthright... But in my office, youd think that because they had to put up with instant for the last year that when a half decent option arrives, they will be appreciative of the privilege. Just reaffirms my choice to keep my machine at my desk and PF hidden away.

I thought I heard somewhere that OCMP were equipped with fully autos? Thats what some of my local colleagues said when they were complaining about not having a machine here and they were saying that OCMP had whizz bang machines etc... That wouldnt satisfy a snob but would at least take care of the vultures....

Nah no way would they do that they have 6 cafes on site! Although anything is better than what we have now. (Instant.. Eww) I work in building F which is the ugliest and worst equip building of them all! Only reason we have the cafe roma is because we moved here a few months before everyone when it was still a building site (which it still looks like it is most of the time!) and there was no where for a coffee! IT people require coffee to function its in the manual!

Re: WTB: Cheap boiler Machine for Work (SYD)

I am afraid you have set an impossible task......where on earth you are going to get something *decent* in your price bracket and or in good nik I dont know. The alternative is to buy a new sunbeam ristretto ( if they are still around they are in your price bracket new), but I for one would not be satisfied with the coffee produced.....

If you wish to see if we might have anything that IS a decent type of thing at a "nice" price, why not give me a call.....but please note it wont be in your stated price bracket. As someone else noted on page one of this thread, look at the relative costs that you save through using your own machine as compared to buying cuppas. The rest of the discussion about how badly staff treat coffee machines is *respectfully* irrelevant. If you want the coffee machine, you live with that and we all know it happens even in coffee businesses like mine ( I am ALWAYS after them to clean up after themselves argghhhhhhh!).

Again if you want to see what we might be able to do, please dont hesitate to call.

    Regardz,
    Attilio.

Fair enough. Thanks anyway. But never said i was after a decent machine just something cheap and old that will sit on the bench waiting for daily abuse! (whether i agree with the abuse or not) which is why i wouldnt be willing to spend more that $150 on a basic machine with a boiler.

I bought a Gaggia Classic in great condition off ebay for $160. Needed the obligatory clean (but even if it looked spotless I would have done that) and its performed faultlessly ever since (probably around 2 years now). Keep your eye out for one of those (or a Carezza - same machine but without a 3-way valve) they can go quite cheaply. I disagree that its impossible to get a decent boiler machine for $150. Gaggia on ebay is the way I would go.
