    RIP Miss Silvia

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
Hi guys. *My7 Silvia died this morning and my wife has encouraged me to *upgrade rather than repair. *The old girl was over 8 years old and was due to be retired soon in any case (The machine, not the wife ;)).

I have been looking recently and am interested in the following machines:-0

    1. Expobar Minore III
    2. ECM/Rocket Giotto Premium Plus
    3. Bezerra Domus Galatea
    4. VBM Domobar Super Lever

Could anyone explain if there are any differences in these machines that might make one a better buy than the others. *I note they are all priced about the same.

I have also noted that Di Bartoli have Isomac machines on special at the moment. *Can anyone explain the differences in the various machines there and if any of those might be a better buy than those mentioned above.

At present I probably make 4-5 espresso and 2-3 milk based coffees a day with the odd need to cater for around 10 people. *I live in Rockhampton so reliability will be a big consideration. *I currently have a Rocky grinder that still seems to be grinding fine despite also being 8 years old.

    Any help appreciated.

    Hi XenneX1969 and welcome!

You have a great shortlist there and all I can suggest is that you might consider adding the Diadema Junior Extra/Regal to it as well.

All on the list are terrific machine and we can supply them all as well.

Ultimately, your decision will most likely come down to nuances such as ease of fill, steam wand anatomy and performance, chassis material, drip tray size, bang for buck and other such items.

Perhaps it may be best to have chat about those on your list?

You are most welcome to make contact if we can assist...

    Happy shopping!

    Chris

PS- do up the Silvia and sell it- even if it requires a new boiler. You should have no trouble getting $500 which will assist with your purchase $$$

    Vale Miss Sylvia

Im sure youve earned the envy of several CoffeeSnobs with a wife encouraging an upgrade.
In answer to your question - one of the most common asked - is that, yes there is a difference in form and function but probably little difference in the quality of the end product.

The Expobar is dual boiler rather than heat exchanger; the GPP is probably the most popular HX machine among CSers, the Bezzera DG is one of the best looking and the VBM has the most grunt.

In the end, it is personal preference on what features and functions you would want and it is best to go along to one of the sponsors who sell a range of these machines and get a look/feel.

I bought my GPP from Talk Coffee/Cuppacoffee and couldnt be happier with the value and service I received. I bought my grinder and previous machine from Di Bartoli and also happy with the purchases. If you are Sydney-based, then JetBlack is also a good place to visit. They stock the Diadema range which is one you should add to your list (and is also on special at the moment).

    Hi XenneX1969,

The machines on your list each have their own quirks so its really a question of which one is the best "fit" for you.

Happy to do the question and answer thing to help you find your perfect "fit".

I see in your sig you ended up with the giotto, Im leaning the same way.

How is it going?? What made you pick the giotto??

Do you feel upgrading Rocky to the Compak was worth while??

Dont forget the superlative Diadema range of machines.... ::)

Wonderful engineering and design, coupled with very high quality manufacture.... If youre thinking about the possibility of a Giotto then the Diadema range should be on your short-list too. I love my DJE. In reality, you should try and get to a reputable specialist retailer (any of our Site Sponsors fall into this category) and try out various machines that lie within your nominated budget. Nothing beats a hands-on demo to get a feel for which machine really fits your requirements best... 8-)

    Cheers,
    Mal.

What made you go for the Junior Extra over the Giotto??

I definately need to see some more machines before I decide. Was keen on the La Scala Butterfly after reading reviews on the internets, but in person, the Giotto looked much nicer! ::)

    Re: RIP Miss Silvia

Hi guys. Yes got a good deal on the Giotto PP and Compak from Jetblack Espresso. Didnt have the luxury of checking out any machines personally as I live in Rockhampton Queensland and there aint no high end coffee shops here ....
Love the Giotto. Has taken me a while to get the hang of it .... Beautiful machine .... Am actually using both grinders. Have decaf in Rocky and other blend in the Compak ... both seem to do a good job although Compak is messy .....
