Help me fix my Giotto Classic!

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
Ive just gotten back from being OS in Vietnam for 5 weeks (separate post re coffee experience pending ;)).

I showed my wife how to make a flat white before I left and she was doing fairly well until one morning when the machine wouldnt warm up.

She doesnt recall any strange noises etc so my knowledge of the problem is limited to:

    • The machine powers up
    • I hear the click of a relay or similar
    • It doesnt heat at all
    • The pump runs when I pour water through the group but nothing from the steam or hot water wands

I have a full parts manual (which Id share on the forum but the attachment is too big). Any suggestions on what to check next?

Crisis over. The safety thermostat on top of the boiler needed to be reset (a little red button between two leads which made a small click when depressed). Two minutes to solve with just a phillips head screw driver!

Thanks for the anonymous tip. ;)

Ah spoke too soon. Reset thermostat and flushed the machine with cafetto but pressure is all over the place so some further maintenance required.

My wife now knows that making one cup of coffee then leaving the machine to stew for 9 hours a day for a month isnt good for it. :-X

Sounds like at the very least the pressurestat is on the blink...

The clicking may also be the element relay on the control board in its death throes...

Time for a service I reckon...

    Good luck ;)

New pressure stat and vacuum valve and Im back in business.

Interesting back story is that two Giottos were purchased at the same and while mine has been in action every day for a number of years, the other has seen very little use until quite recently when it changed hands.

It is very convenient and enlightening to hear and use both machines as there are distinct differences now.

I should add a big thumbs up to Bob Frizzell in Canberra who not only fixed the issues I was having with my machine at very reasonable cost but also went into good detail to explain what had happened, what he did, and tricks to reduce future impacts.
