    Giotto spout covers

Do the covers over the Giotto double spouts serve any purpose - they block my vision, so i was going to take them off. Any issues with this?

Im guessing that it provides some heat retention so the shot is hotter than without the cover.

Ive always judged the quality of the extraction by the so-called rats tail. I cant see what advantage viewing the extracted coffee in the spout channels would offer.

    Re: Giotto spout covers

I dont think it would offer any advantage, i took mine off a while ago, pulled a few shots and then it back on. Apart from issues with user consistency i couldnt see that any difference was made in removing the cover.

i took mine off, and i did the same on my silvia too, so i could see blonding at the earliest stage and cut the shot, plus i reacon it look better without it ;)

I might remove mine, now I think about it: it makes cleaning the group handle a little easier.

    Re: Giotto spout covers

Since I only ever drink doubles, I just screwed the whole spout off and let the coffee flow straight down.

(This way there is no chance of dust contaminating my shots. ::))

Thats exactly what i did with my single spout as doubles are the standard here as well.

mmm might get rid of my covers too. They look a bit naff IMO, and seeing as theres no real logical reason to have them, theyre gone

If someone had have said "its to keep the flying monkeys from landing in your coffee", I might have left them on.

Dust... thats gold! Im going to put mine back on and tell my friends that Im using a new and improved blend of dust free coffee. They may wonder however what Ive actually been brewing! ;D
