    Unico Splendor - new purchase

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
    Hi all

My wife has just surprised me with an upgrade from my ECM Botticelli. I have been working away on and off for the last 6 months and when I got home last week I found a Unico Splendor on the kitchen bench. *:o (I know Im spoilt)

Anyway I thought that Id show it off and see if anyone has any tips for its use.

The grinder in the picture is a Fiorenzato that I picked up for a bargain 18 months ago.

Oh I thought that I might add that I have a "lonely" Botticelli looking for a new home. (See hardware for sale)[pre][/pre]

Lucky you, great looking machine, how does it perform? Guess the wife will be looking at something special from Father Christmas. ::)

Ive only used the machine a few times, and still getting used to it. But so far I am very happy with my shots considering my lack of practice. Its all up from here.

As for Carolyn(aka wonderful wife), I will have to put my thinking cap on for that one.

    Hi, great machine :)
Looks like it already has the smaller steam tip on it that I just got from Coffee Parts. Did the machine come with this tip or did you order it extra?
I have found this machine is very forgiving for grind/tamp variation but having a good quality grinder makes it all so much easier.

    Enjoy ;D

    Rubbish...

Its her duty to look after her man and all his needs.. ;) Besides she now has the pleasure of less bench space and an extra item in the kitchen to clean..

You should take some time out and show her how to clean and maintain the unit... Might be even worth sending her off to a Sponsor for some Barista Training :-?

Once she has that mastered... You might like to extend your self... Get a KKTO kit and then teach her to roast on Mothers day :-*

If all goes well... Your set for life.. If not, well then what can I say ?

PS. Always loved those side panels..

PPS. If ya give her a hug... Dont say its for the machine etc... Give her a hug cause ya care ;)

And very thermo-stable (when set up correctly) and robust. I just love it, and Mrs BH who doesnt drink coffee thinks that it makes our kitchen just that bit more sexy... fine woman to match the machine me thinks!

Wow. Thanks for the responses. *It is a very sexy machine. I stop and pause for a few seconds each time I walk past and admire it. As for the gift for my obviously better half, maybe I should start a poll. *;D ;D

So far I have been improving steadily in my methodogy (is that a word?) and whats in my cup is improving with each shot.

Angermanagement - You do have a point, except that seeing that lovely crema dripping from the group handle brings me so much joy. (when I get it right anyway)

Thundergod - what can I say. Looks awesome. Is that just some fancy photoshop work or did you actually get them printed up. Ive been toying with the idea of getting some small LEDs to mount behind the panel to illuminate them for added effect.

Alchemist - I will take you up on that offer, probably over the christmas break. Saying that by then you new toy should have arrived. Might be hard to get you out of the house. *;)

My wife came with the machine as an optional extra. Shes useful to do not let you fall too much into coffee preparation addiction. ::)

I will go out on a far Left field .....

A: Some suppliers have an agreement with local agents / distributors and in some cases teh Manufacturer; as to who imports and who manages warranty etc etc etc..

B: Serial numbers are also often date related.. Thus NEW or Latest Model can be validated vis Serial N8umbers.. I often ask / check as to EM6910 and other SB products etc.

C: Theft.. Yep some people actually do and cause major issue for some suppliers..

1: 12 ‘Saeco’ brand coffee machines and percolators, each of varying value between $1200 and $4000 were taken from the showroom in the premises.

The total value of these machines is believed to be $30 000 to $40 000.

    2: And in 2004

CosmoreX Coffee suffered a devastating major burglary of its warehouse with the theft of around 40 espresso machines as well as a Company van and other items that had been locked inside the building at the time. The total cost value is around $60,000.00.

None of the serial numbers in that article match my machine thank goodness.

Does anyone have any more info about this?

Dont think it would be related to that incident though AM, there were no Splendor machines stolen as far as I remember..... ::)

May be related to a more recent incident of course or more likely, either A or B in your list of choices.

Thats what I thought from reading the article.

Oh, my machine is secondhand, a 2003 model if "Anna" on the sticker means year. It was in a bit of a sorry state when my friend (that I bought if from) purchased it and had restored to a pristine condition.

    Hello azadean,

there was nothing sinister in my request for the first few digits of the serial number.

You had not at first mentioned the machine was used, so I was wondering why I was seeing a photo of a machine in new condition but of the older or "Mark 1" type. It had to be a few years old but looked like a brand spanker!

Now you have explained all, and you have a lovely machine. What a great present.

    Enjoy.
