Help!....Bezzera B707 on/off vs Volumetric vs Diadema Junior plus

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
Hi guys was wondering if i could get some advice...

I have been looking into coffee machines for a few months now and was initially going to get a full automatic saeco... but i have now been swayed to better quality extraction and want a semi with a grinder...

    My needs are:
    1. 2 coffees every morning, with a few more on the weekends
    2. Ability for milk and espresso... my fiance likes lattes
    3. Start up time for the machine to be reasonable
    4. Budget less that $3k

So i have narrowed it down to 3 machines:
    1. Bezzera b707 on/off
    2. Bezzera b707 volumetric
    3. Diadema Junior plus ..

I like the idea of the bezzera guranteed trade in of 50% in five years ..

What do u guys think any advice??

You will notice a difference in the overall finish

And a good idea to see all your short-listed machines in the flesh

    Yes you can
The BZ07 volumetric has a on/off bottom in addition to the programmed buttons

    3 bottons in total =
    1 x single cup
    1 x double cup
1 x manual on/off & also used for programming *buttons 1&2 by holding it down

    dr.nate;

both machines are good depending how you look at.

    Junior:
    E61 group head
    1.3 lt boiler
    3 lt water tank
    Automatic refill
Automatic lower water level cut out

    Bezzera:
Bezzera traditional group head with element and thermostat to keep it the group head stable
    1.5 lt boiler
    4 lt water tank
    Automatic refill
Automatic lower water level cut out

The quality of the S/S is similar, most of the internals are the same, pump, pressure switch.

I think at the end of the day you need to try each and see which one you feel more comfortable yourself.

Yes, guranteed trade in of 50% in five years, if you want to trade-it in for another Bezzera.

If you want to try the Bezzera I have it on the bench , happy for you to try it.

Tried the vibiemme junior and the b707... Think I prefer a machine with e61 group head... Its much more forgiving in terms of dose and tamper..

The VBM is more forgiving in terms of dose - however, thats not because of the e-61 group head - its because the BZ07 has such a low shower screen which forces you to grind fine and dose low. *With a lower dose, what youll find is that a certain small change in dose is a larger percentage of change compared to say if the same amount of change was applied to a "standard" or larger dose. *Thats what I think anyway, I might be wrong.

Love the temp stability of the VBM though, wich is due to the e-61 (and a good HX system). *Having owned both, I much, much prefer the VBM, but thats just me.

Have not tried the Diadema, so cant input there.

Hey guys just invested in the VBM Domobar Junior with Vario grinder... Thanks to Renzo at Di Bartoli for great service and advice!! Now to learning the art of extracting the best shot... I seem to be over dosing a bit ... So still getting used to it... And the steam is fierce ... So gotta perfect stretching and getting the right texture!

A month into using my machine and loving it ... the steaming milk takes some getting used to as does getting the right dose for extraction... Im getting close to my first backwash and seem to have forgotten how to do this ? Also does anyone know how often i should clean my grinder with the grindz tablets that came with it ... (i have a vario mahlkonig)?

The steaming is difficult to master on the vbm jnr. I still find if I have a small slip of the wrist - bang heaps of big macrofoam bubbles. But you eventually get used to it.

As for the backwash, put 1/4-1/2 teaspoon of cleaning powder in the blind filter and run a small amount of water into the handle so the powder dissolves, then engage the group handle and wait. After a short while foamy liquid should start to appear into the drip tray. After a little time just run 3-4 short 5 second shots so the cleaning liquid expels/backwashes into the drip tray. Then remove group handle and clean. REMEMBER to run a couple of throwaway sink shots after the cleaning process so you dont ingest cleaning powder - or you could invite your in laws for coffee *;D.

As for the grinder, I am not sure if the vario is any different. But for most grinders you dont have to run a cleaning cycle very often - maybe 6-9 months at a time depending on volume of coffee.
